i got an ebook on SEO. i got it for free.
I only read the first 2 chapters then the last chapter. It would be very applicable for an online shop, or a niche blog.
first of all, broad kaayo imong question kay ang SEO would play around keywords. Ang usa ka site, i-optimize cya for a certain keyword. So if you are looking for websites nga maayo pagka-SEO, you can enter a competitive keyword (usually one word lang, like "shoes") in google and the top rank sa result, mao na ang pinakamaayo nga site pagka-optimize.
Then you are asking unsaon pag SEO. Dili ni cya sayon tubagon like unsay answer sa 1+1 kay very broad kau ang SEO and daghan kau activities imo kailangan buhaton. I will try to answer it in a simplified manner as possible.
1. Keyword research - mao ni ang first himoon. Select ug keywords kung unsa imong ioptimize for your site. keywords are the words or phrases nga imong itype sa search bar in google. Kani nga phase, you have to think like a researcher or customer or visitor. What are the keywords nga gamiton sa customer pra muadto sa imong site? If you have a site dedicated to ladies' shoes then keywords should be ladies shoes, high heel shoes, stilleto shoes, etc. Think like a customer.
2. On Page Optimization - this phase, imo itweak imong pages to include your keywords. Add the keywords in your meta tags, alt tags, and page content. sakto si superpaul nga dili ganahan ang crawlers sa mga dynamic URLs nga naay mga &, ?, etc. Beware of using of frames in your site too. I suggest research more on On Page optimization kay this in itself is a huge topic.
3. Off Page Optimization - Ang pinakakapoy, pinaka koti, pinakaboring, pinakahassle, pinaka-critical nga tasks para ma-optimize ang site. Off page optimization meaning, wala ka sa imong website naghimo sa optimization. Offpage optimization if successful will bring traffic and increase PR and increase rankings in the SERP. These are some of the techniques for offpage optimization:
a. directory submission
b. article writing
c. link exchange
d. link baiting
e. blogging
f. forum participation
g. press release writing
h. social bookmarking
ug uban pa nga mga butang basta makainvite lang ug visitors sa imong site. Off page optimization is another research assignment kay broad sad kau ni.
After you have done all that, evaluate if successful, if not, balik nasad sa sugod. Yep, SEO is an ongoing process nga murag walay katapusan because you have to maintain your rankings pod. Kay if muhunong ka, imbis naa naka sa first page sa google result, mubalik napod sa lubot imong site.
Well, that's all I can say.

Here is a way to check if a site is well optimized for a keyword, lets say your keyword is "blogging for cash".
Go to google and do a search for the following:
intitle:"blogging for cash" inurl:"blogging for cash" inanchor:"blogging for cash" intext:"blogging for cash"
That will turn up a list of sites that are optimized for "blogging for cash", hence the keyword phrase appears on the page title, in the url, in anchor text on the page and in the text or content...
After that, you can check those sites individually for their back-links by doing this search on Google:
link:"the-url-of-the-site-you-wanna-check"
This search will turn up the sites that are linking to that site. Check their page ranks and alexa, find out their link distribution, how many sites are PR1, PR2, etc... to beat that site you checked you gotta come up with more links and from better sites.
SEO is an everyday job, monthly job, constant tweaking of content, finding and adding good links, totally agree with mitchwah. Google for instance, if you link with good ranking websites, those that have high pr's will take you somewhere than having too plenty of low pr sites.
Content matters a LOT. Keyword density. I use a webposition software that can give you analysis of how your keywords work for SE's per page. Landing the no. 1 spot takes constant work. After every crawl, you don't know other websites competing for that keyword would beat you to it. No brainer really, companies hire SEO specialists to do just SEO and for a high price. SEO is not a one-time thing. You have to check your rankings every crawl.
Now, where's the sense in searching for "istorya.net" on google? We optimize to compete on the first page. It's promotion. You promote "cebu-based forum" instead of the real name. Online stores... would people wanting to shop for a certain item type "walmart" to search? Unless siguro ngita lang sila sa website sa walmart. Pero kung wala pa sila'y idea asa sila makapalit, generalized keyword gyud. That's where competition comes. Who sells the product? Where can i buy such a product? Goodness.
Good SEO'ed websites are those ranking 1st on keywords for those that have lots of competition. I agree with P-Chan about typing a broad topic and those that appear on the 1st page are very well optimized. You can also download http://www.checkyourlinkpopularity.com/ it's a freeware, I use it a lot, make good use of it. Search for your site, butang imong competitor's site, and then analyze your competition's link popularity. It's like spying on how well they're really doing behind the blinds.
Buy a good software to keep track of your progress each month. Reporting, etc. It will show you on the next crawl if your keyword on a certain search engine has placed better or worse (kung ni saka ba pila ka spots or naubos ba it's really nice) There are lots of softwares you can use that will generate reports from numerous important search engines. It's really a big job. EVERY-DAY gyud. I'm using http://www.webposition.com/product/w...0084&WT.srch=1
Daghan man gyung strategies, but you have to use a strategy and see if it better'ed your placement. Then ug dili, suway na pud lain. You have a chance to change your SEO strategies because like google bot for instance, naa na siya'y certain schedule pag crawl every month.
If mahalan ra mo palit ug software, pangita ug hosting company nga naay statistics features such as this:

At least maka monitor ka than having to do it all manual. The challenge for SEO enthusiasts is to make it big time. Worldwide targeting. If you have an online store that's gonna compete with US online companies, bilib ko. Let's say if I'm an american woman online shopping for purses then mobutho dayun imong website nga maligya ka ug unique nga bags from pinas, have a contact here to do deliveries, WTG di ba!
Therefore, those on top of the list on the first page for highly competitive keywords are very well optimized ataya daghana naku ug istorya uy hahaha. No brainer! Beat the rest!
Good insights everyone! I'm sure a lot of us have learned from your posts.
a few only hihih
wow this is an interesting topic. have a friend of mine who's doing SEO and am very amazed on how the internet really works. What i was thinking before is that one you launched your website thats it, your done.
Thats why some people don't really get much results from their website it's because they fail to increase traffic.
