Bleach feels similar somehow. There are a lot of series on shinigami-s & spirits. Let's see... reminds me a bit of The Shaman King.

^^ Right now, I am not very interested in the fighting. I'm more interested in the characters themselves. Ichigo's dad is hilarious. Currently, for me, this series is one of those stories wherein I'm more interested if this and that character ma-dayon in the end.

started reading the manga...cool sad! love his HUGE sword..whats it called again?and the glove that the shinigami has to use to pull out one's soul!!

Let's see... (for me) the manga really gets interesting starting vol. 6. ^^ My favorite character is the shinigami (forgot her name). She's funny.

Bleach is an awesome manga. The anime is just starting so give it some time. The manga starts out slowly, but the later chapters leaves you wanting more. It gets very interesting later with twists and turns. All I can say is that, give Bleach a chance, it'll be worth it later on.
