I'd say it is very different. What will be forgiven/omitted in life will always cost you in this game. There was the time I started playing but quit exactly because of this very reason. To be more precise not quit, but re-qualified myself into a fan of provably fair games that I found more than plenty one day. What is great is that they never hold your money but allow to withdraw the same moment you want it.
It doesn't matter if it is real life, or it is poker, you can lose everything in one simple move. Then, everything depends on you and only on you. You can lie, you can be sincere. Just be aware not to be caught. There is a risk associated with almost every reward in both poker and life. In poker, you need to bet money to have the chance to win. Poker is like a life simulator.
