wala may kahibaw jud sa exact nawng niya bro, that's also one the reasons why we should not worship the image but rather the God portrayed by the image..where the image is only a symbol.
however it boils down to our faith. again bro, not the image but the One portrayed by it.

i think God wouldn't mind us looking at a statue while we pray to Him as long as we are not praying at the statue..hehehe...as long as our hearts run after His.
in the same case of a person kneeling down before a light post, reminded by Christ sacrifice and Love as the light post happens to take the form of a Cross..
