hay problem jud ni nako ang tear stains.....even with our white poodles before, mao pud aku problem. now that our poodles are a lot older, and less playful, i noticed na a lot less or wala na jud sila tear stain...
with my bichons now, arnie is right it has to do with diet and probably environment also. when i first got troy, he did not have tear stains at all but it started about a month after i got him. i tried to change their water to distilled as per recommendation of troy's breeeder but it lowered their immunity because everything was just 'too clean' so i switched back to mineral water. when they were on distilled, i did see some improvement but i was not able to keep it on for long enough to see the staining totally disappear. i have yet to try the apple cider in the water...
i have also some friends who have bichons that have no tear stains and instead mouth stains is a bigger problem for them. for the tear stains they just constantly wipe the eyes multiple times a day. i read somewhere that the staining is due to yeast growing in the wet portion near the eyes due to tears. the yeast produces the discoloration so keeping it always dry will prevent the staining. i do not know how true this is though.
i have also tried several 'products' to reduce the staining and until now have not found one that i am satisfied with. will try the apple cider and see if it helps.
