Honestly speaking, people are full of nonesense. Just because they disagree with the policy, they now want government to force sm to change its policy. First of all, who the hell are you? Second, is your money on the line with sm's decision? Third, if you're an employee and disagree with the policy, then quit. If you value your job more, then stay and follow the policy. Lastly, this is sooo trivial. It's a private business for f@ckn sakes, they are free to experiment what works for their business. If it fails them, do you gain something? If it results to certain degree of success, do you lose something? If nothing changes in their business and it was after all an insignificant policy in the first place since it was just a whim of a discriminating SOB, so what? Is your life affected in anyway? Other than your misplaced sens3 of pride of being a bisaya? If thats the case, screw your shallowness. Pride is something that results from effort, not some arbitrary condition such as being born as a bisaya., filipino, chinese, whatsoever...

Ps: to those who cite employee condition or whatever, if working in your present company makes you poorer than being unemployed, then quit and stay unemployed. Dont ask for a raise if you dont deserve it, and seek government help to force businesses to heed your demands. Length of service is pathetic reason. Productivity is what matters.

"ngano kinahanglan mn jud mokaon nga wala man ta maanad mokaon ug iro?" matud sa wala nakauyon

"hoy! dili tanan tawo sa pinas dili mokaon ug iro" matud sa empleyado

so mao to nipadayun ug kaon ug iro ang mga empleyado kay najustify man nila ang gibuhat sa amo.

It's not a big deal since Bisayas are polyglots. As long as the manager didn't say nga not allowed ang bisaya, naa na nay issue kay against man na sa Philippine Constitution kung ingon ana ang dagan.

They have a Charter of French Language in Quebec stating that French is the official language in the province. But in Cebu, there's no charter from the Capitol stating Bisaya should be the official language in Cebu. It's up to SM kung ingon ana ila policy to speak tagalog, kung sila mawad-an ug customers tungod ana, then ilaha pud ra na problema. Adto na lang tingale sa Gillamac basin wala silay policy nga tagalogon mo didto.

I'm starting to believe this thread is just meant to throw flame on the sensitivity of ethnic conflicts between Tagalogs vs Bisayas. Pa start ra ni og tigaw ning thread, murag baws sa thread pud didto sa tagalog forum regarding sa stereotype sa mga Cebuanos didtos Manila.
If you want to be formal, use English. But don't say Bisaya is NOT for business, because Filipino is the same.

Besides, is this how SM wants to be viewed? A retailer which has 1 official language to greet customers? Do they greet customers in Ilo-ilo in Filipino as well? I know, for example, that they don't do that in Davao and Cagayan de Oro. Don't they want to be closer to the people they're operating in and tweak their processes a little bit?

From my experience, if there's a foreign celebrity and he/she went on stage and said "Mabuhay! " people actually cheer. Wouldn't be SM better of by greeting their customers in the local language/dialect?

I mentioned HSBC..."The World's Local Bank". That seems like a very good formula.
