Because THE CHRIST is a title and not a family name of Jesus! When you say THE PASSION of CHRIST it's like saying THE PASSION OF PAQUIAO which refers to the family name of Manny, the pound for pound king!

Well some Catholics or Christians (no offense) don't know that CHRIST is a title and not his family name! Ask all of them if they really know the meaning of THE CHRIST!

kahibaw man ta tanan...'Christ' means 'anointed one' (same as Messiah). It IS a title rather than a proper name, and titles usually have a 'the' in front of them - 'the' Heavenly Father, 'the' Lord, 'the' King, 'the' Saviour, 'the' Blessed Virgin, 'the' Apostle Paul.

I suppose translating it into other languages Reg has a point. You wouldn't say 'Jesus Anointed', or 'Jesus Messiah', rather you'd say 'Jesus the anointed one' or 'Jesus the Messiah'.

ug susama sa giingon ni Reg, the movie was called 'The Passion of THE Christ', so it's certainly not wrong. Still, it is creating a bit of a storm in a teacup. It is such common usage to say 'Jesus Christ' that it's fine to choose it also. And it is used on many occasions - 'the Body of Christ', 'the Blood of Christ', 'Feast of Christ the King' and so on.

tinoud man...we Catholics are all anointed in baptism and confirmation, so we can call ourselves 'anointed'. But if this is meant to imply that we are all Jesus, then no.

That's why Jesus as THE CHRIST is said to be the THE FISHER OF MEN!

Do you think THE CHRIST as a title is only exclusive for JESUS, The Man? I don't think so.

I think you need to study the different meaning of SYMBOLS which is the universal language of humanity!

Christ is the English term for the Greek word Χριστός (Christós), meaning "The Anointed One."
