current projection model, ang tacloban ug samar moy makatilaw sa full blast.
Maximum sustained winds are at 160 mph (upwards of 250 km/h) with higher gusts making this a category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale and additional intensification is expected in the next 24 to 48 hours with Haiyan pummeling the central Philippines as a cat 4 or 5 storm. At this time, typhoon / hurricane strength winds extend out 45 miles while tropical storm strength winds extend out 125 from the center and should remain at this distance when Haiyan passes through the Philippines.
Threats & Damages for the Philippines
As a cat 5 storm, along the path of the strongest typhoon strength winds, a high percentage of framed homes will be destroyed, with total roof failure and wall collapse. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last for weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

Hi everyone! I understand that many of us are nervous about the coming typhoon. Stay calm, worry isn't productive unless you address the problem! This is the first major typhoon for many Cebuanos, but this is definitely not the first major typhoon for Cebu.
Here are the same tips I gave the public when we were expecting Ruping:
1. Buy as many plastic bags as you can. Use them to cover your appliances in case your roof leaks. You will also need them to store garbage as garbage collection will likely be delayed.
2. Do not buy fresh food. In the case of a very bad storm, there may not be electricity for the refrigerator. Buy only food that does not need a fridge, like tapa or canned goods. If electricity is lost, consume all your fresh food first.
3. Do all your laundry now. There may not be any running water after a storm.
4. Buy extra cell phone batteries. Even if there is no electricity, the cell site towers might still have working backup generators. Communication is important.
5. If garbage collection services are available, give them only perishables and rotting garbage. Do not give them debris like broken glass or furniture. This will overwhelm the garbage collection system and deprive others in need.
6. Store as much clean water as you can. People can live without electricity or even food for days, but water is essential. Separate your drinking water from water used for washing or flushing your toilet. Water used for these things can be kept in open containers like pails or drums (you can even fill up your sinks with water to maximize your storage).
Please stay strong and stay calm! You'll make it!
