Miami ends point guard serach

The Heat concluded its nearly month-long search for a veteran point guard Friday when it agreed to terms with guard Smush Parker, two sources said. Parker started most of the past two years for the Lakers before losing his starting job late last season.

Parker, 26, is believed to have agreed to a two-year contract for a portion of the Heat's $5.35 million mid-level exception. The deal is contingent on Parker passing a physical on Monday.

Parker will provide the Heat more on-the-ball defense and outside shooting. Parker will compensate the loss of shooter Jason Kapono who signed with the Toronto Raptors.

Now that the Heat have Parker, it would seem that there would no longer be a Haslem-Alston trade.

C-Webb and Dallas

The Mavericks are trying to close the deal with forward Brandon Bass and possibly Chris Webber. The Mavericks are interested in Webber and apparently, Webber is taking the Mavericks into consideration also.

For now, Webber's got only Detroit and Dallas on his list. He's passing abilities can help the Mavericks a lot as well as his short jumpers. With the Mavericks, he can be of great use against San Antonio, but won't really be a factor against Phoenix.

The Kevin Garnett deal that went on and off has now gone ON again. Garnett is rumored to be traded to the Boston for Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo and the expiring contract of Theo Ratliff. However, there may also be other players and draft picks involved and also cash considerations.

Another version of the said rumor is for the Celtics to send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and expiring contract Theo Ratliff.

We'll have to wait within the next 48 hours for the trade to be considered valid or not. Grabeh ha... Hehehe.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors are negotiating deals that could send Drew Gooden to the Warriors to clear cap space to re-sign Anderson Varejao and Sasha Pavlovic.

A 1994 SCRIMMAGE

In 1994, the Houston Rockets traded Robert Horry and Matt Bullard to the Detroit Pistons for veteran sharpshooter Sean Elliot. Horry was shocked, Bullard was angry and Elliott was about to flunk a physical because of kidney problems.

When that happened, the trade was rescinded. Everyone got back on a plane, flew home and tried to pretend it never happened.

"It probably saved my career," he said. "I came back knowing that the reason they traded me was for not shooting the basketball enough.

"So once I came back, they were going to have to tell me to stop shooting."

BOSTON - Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star
forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told The Associated Press on
Monday.

Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair,
swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity
because the deal had not been completed. The official also said the Timberwolves would get at least one
draft choice.
