It's definitely not too late for Tyrese to appear, he was one of my favorite characters in the comics. But since his appearance in the TV series is long overdue, I think Shane and, later Daryl, took over his role as Rick's right-hand man.

We'll see. We can't expect the TV series to follow the comic's plot anymore. I mean, sa comics, Sophia is still alive. Maybe TV Lori will have a different fate as comicbook Lori. As well as baby Judith. Then again, Kirkman is known for his "no character is spared" style of writing.

I read somewhere that he was very open to the idea of killing off either Carl or Rick in the comics, way before ending the comic's plotline

Lori is having a dubious feelings towards Rick. She's a clumsy mom who always not lookout for his son Carl that involved from big danger and unexpected revelations from his Dad. Carl is too young to understand on his Dad's decision and plans for the future in protecting them. Rick's emotions becomes transcendent that it combines an unbearable anguish of life with the hopes of overcoming this impossible situation they are right now with his family, friends and within the group. But he stays positive whatever may come either the group or his wife & sons hate it.
