    Default Bebut's Trail, 18 April 2010

Posting some photos of the recent Day Hike & Nature Appreciation activity in Bebut's Trail on April 18, 2010. Jungle Wil, Boy T, Ernie, Myla, Daveson, Niņo, Brady, Nathan & PinoyApache came after an eventful first EB in Sky Rise 1 the night before:

Practicing my knife-throwing skill after laying idle for many years in "mango avenue", a segment of Ernie's Trail in the foothills of the Babag Mountain Range in Cebu City during the Seeds for Earth Day, April 25, 2010.

By the way, we have a Seeds for Earth Day activity this Sunday and catch the invite in Facebook.

This Sunday, while resting from another activity, bring your sharpest knife and/or multi-tools and let's try to see if you could make a good one. I'll give you an idea how it's done. Go read my blog.
I tried making my first wooden spoon, carving it with a Boker folder and it ain't good. I'll just post it anyway. The wood is tanguele, a local hardwood.

I even made a story out of this in my blog

On my second try, I made it from a madre de cacao with my tomahawk during the Seeds for Earth Day on April 25, 2010:

Anyway, both make a nice back-scratcher...

I went deep into the Buhisan Watershed Area yesterday to explore a good place for bushcraft where we could practice our skills. I accessed the site from another area and I witnessed a different side of Buhisan. The whole place is amazing as if I am in another province and to think that this area is just 8-10 kilometers from City Hall. The trails down into the basin is jungle and the basin itself is almost flat and with a great number of giant endemic trees and plenty of birds. So many many good places to camp out. IT is so PERFECT!

I have been thinking for two days about the impact on the watershed if there are too many people camping there, it is for this reason that I don't like to bring many people there especially mountaineers. At the most, I could bring 3-4 people only for an overnight camp. The route I explored is out of the way and not the usual route that we used to do in the early days. It is a wild area although cutting of some trees are noticeable. I even saw some bird and lizard snares along the way so dili pwede ang kiat-kiat diri kay too dangerous.
