lived/stayed briefly in both places many times (longest in BKK was 3months, longest at HKG was 5months). HKG is more of the shopping type and modern attractions. BKK is all that, plus the amazing Thai culture/history. sorry I lived in splendour at both places c/o my ex-company/employer hehe (BKK=Amari, HKG=Holiday Inn) so I would not be sure of the cheaper places. The Bangrak/Silom area in BKK does have a lot of cheap lodges and near to everything. I loved visiting Narai Hotel cuz the bandS there were pinoys (as if its rare hehe, most bands in the whole city are pinoys!). I do hear many Pinoys like YMCA in HK but when I was at Jollibee, I saw/heard pinays arranging things for some pinoy backpackers and I heard those accoms were really cheap.
tips: while in BKK, try visitng Pattaya (daghan2X english speakers ngadto) but never fail to visit Ayutthaya. the beaches beckon, but so does the royal and temple things. If you have time, try bus hopping to the south like kho samui, hat yai, phuket all the way to butterworth and even down to singapore! if you even have more time, try chiangmai. theres an HIV+ village, du hehehe! while in HK, a train ride to mainland would be great... then again, why not discover that most of the gondola riders, guards and casino dealers at Macau's the venetian are pinoys hehe! labang ra ka via fastcraft going there!
my take would be for you to do BKK first before HKG. to qualify my views... I consider shopping as capital punishment! but if I must go shopping, I would rather be in chatuchak than be roaming the many floors of toys-r-us hehehe! then again.. walay lingaw nga cable cars sa bangkok hehe, tua ra na sa ocean park! then again.. walay baby elephant nga suroy sa city streets at night in HKG, tua ra na sa patphong! hungitag saging da, photo-op tawon oi!
have fun!
thanks bro anyone else.... at least naa nako background gamay
HK is nice.. for shopping and touring for family trips
Been to both.. if Bangkok expect the weather to be the same as here if not hotter gamay. THe shopping is good there, cheap ilang mga goods I love the Chatuchak Market. Dako kaau xa that you need a map to get around. Took a river cruise ride and yes daghan temples didto. Watched a cultural show as well. Daghan cheap places to stay sa Bangkok. Yes, nice sad ang Pattaya which is about an hour or two away from Bangkok by bus. The best thing about the place is the fruits!
Hong Kong, been there couple of times..ang best time to go there is anytime except Summer kai init or sometimes ting bagyo. Love the autumn season kai di kaau cold and di sad kaau warm. Best place to go shopping too and sites to see: Avenue of the Stars, Victoria's Peak, take a boat ride from Hongkong island to kowloon island or vice versa, then of course the must see disneyland. Basta many places to go, di ra sad kaau ka ma saag kai gamay ra ang HK.
Good luck.
