Default Latest Report/Update of Mutual Funds

    hi,

the 71.13% 1-yr return of 1st metro means that if I invested 10,000 last Nov. 2009, my money will become 17,113 this time? What's the implications also of the 3-yr. term & the 5-yr term? Pls. share your knowledge on this. God bless.

No, I think that the YTD is counted from the first month of the year. So if you placed P10,000 on FAMI last January 1, 2010, your money is projected to grow to more or less P17,110 when the year ends. However, if you invested anytime in 2010, the growth will be computed from the year's growth minus the growth from the start of the year until you invested.

The 3-year and 5-year returns are also projections. Nobody could give a clear return/growth on mutual funds because the market is very unpredictable.

    Hi Makie,

How did you compute the more or less P17,110 when the year ends considering 1st metro's YTD is 68.07%?

Can you provide sample computation also for this quote "However, if you invested anytime in 2010, the growth will be computed from the year's growth minus the growth from the start of the year until you invested."

Thank you so much for the help.

    That's correct.

    to make it more understandable:

    3yr - 3 year average growth per year from Nov 23, 2007
    5yr - 5 year average growth per year from Nov 23, 2005
YTD - year to date or from Jan 1,2010 to Nov 23, 2010

I was basing it on the 71.13%. Basically, the computation starts from the start of the year.

For the example, here it is. Let's say the YTD is 70% for 2010 and you invested somewhere midyear where the growth was already 40%. From the time you invested until the end of the year, your growth will be 30%. Summing it up, just start computing where/when you started to invest.

Sorry, my bad about the 3-year and 5-year term, I thought it was projections. It was the returns for the past 3 and 5 years.

So how will the average growth % impact to my money (example I invested 3 yrs or 5 yrs. ago)?

How about if I invested 10,000 then every month added 2,000? How will the average growth % give yield to my investment?

Appreciate if you'll illustrate thru sample figures.

    Thanks a lot.

Say you invested P10,000 and consistently added P2,000 a month for 5 years for a fixed rate of 30% a year (mutual funds actually doesn't have a fixed rate, the 30% fixed rate is just for simplicity of calculations). You investments will be compounded at a rate of 30% annually.

    Initial investment = P10,000
Amount added every month = P2,000

    After 1 year = P44,200.00
    After 3 years = P146,458.00
    After 5 years = P319.724.02

    In a year, you'll get P44,200 from your P32,000 investment (P10,000 + P24,000)
    In 3 years, you'll get P146,458 from your P80,000 investment (P10,000 + P72,000)
    In 5 years, you'll get P319,724.02 from your P128,000 investment (P10,000 + 120,000)

The P24,000, P72,000, and P120,000 are the sum of your P2,000 additional investments every month.

For a much detailed illustration, I'll compute the first 3 months:

    1st month: P10,000 (initial investment) + P2,000 (monthly additional) = P12,000 + 2.5% (12k) = P12,300
    2nd month: P12,300 (from first month) + P2,000 (monthly additional) = P14,300 + 2.5% (14.3k) = P14,657.50
    3rd month: P14,657.50 (from second month) + P2,000 (monthly additional) = P16,657.50 + 2.5% (16,657.50) = P17,073.94

If you'll continue that computation, you'll get nearly P44,200 after 12 months, P146,458 after 36 months, and P319,724 in 60 months. Your money will grow in a compounding way in mutual funds.

mga bro i just read from pinoymoneytalk forums about MF.marami kang matutunan talaga dun.

your money will not grow in compounding way....the very important figures are your no. of shares and the navps. kahit ilang % pa ang tinaas per year your no. of shares will always be the same.but if your investing evry month offcourse addition share yun. to see how much profit you have, you only need to multiply

no. of shares x current navps

so after 5 yrs at tuloy2x na 30% ang taas ng navps. bonga2x ang pera mo when you redeem it. same with the figures above.

pero kung yung navps hinde nagbago after 5 yrs.hehe!...just be patient invest long term.

paki correct me kung merong mali sa aking pagkakaintinde sa mf....
