SingTel consultancy arm plans to expand in Cebu

SingTel Group’s ICT services and consultancy arm, NCS Pte. Ltd is eyeing Cebu as the next site for its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and research and development (R&D) center.
In an interview with NCS general manager Lim Boon Guan, he said that Cebu will be the next target for site expansion of the company, noting Cebu’s ample supply of highly skilled ICT human resource, as well as in place infrastructure for IT company investments.
"I will be setting my first trip to Cebu to personally see the potential for the province for our expansion plan. We would also like to understand more of Cebu’s ICT industry, what kind strength the province has, so that will know the kind of operation we have to set up in Cebu," Lim Boon said in an interview.
NCS Pte Ltd, is a leading regional IT and communications engineering company in Singapore and a wholly-owned subsidiary of SingTel.
The company provides one-stop, end-to-end suite, if IT and communications engineering solutions to meet customers’ business and technology needs.
He added that Malaysia and China BPO facilities have a total of 200 seats. The company has huge requirement for backroom operations, he said, and that if the Cebu expansion will be pushed through, NCS still have to find out how many seats in BPO operations that will be established, depends on the supply of human resources, and building facility.
NCS has a satellite office in Metro Manila for two years, for marketing purposes. However, if the company were to decide in setting up facility here, it could be a software development, or BPO operation for human resource, of financial operation, as we as hardware and technical development.
The company offers consulting services in business continuity, e-Government, strategic organization, IT service management and IT applications and infrastructure.
NCS’ business solutions include business process re-engineering, application design, development, implementation and maintenance, ERP implementation and maintenance, and systems integration.
NCS is a leading vendor-independent IT and communications engineering solutions provider with some 4,000 staff in Asia Pacific & Middle East. It was established in early 1980s as the principal IT solutions provider to the Singapore government.

More building projects show Cebu’s growth

The increase in the number of buildings and construction of buildings is a sign of development in the city.
In Cebu's case, expect its skyline to change, with the new buildings and buildings under construction. Add to this, if realized, the construction of proposed building projects that are on the list (partly taken from www.skyscraper.com) of Cebu's development. These were partly taken up on Monday's Real Estate section.
In Cebu City, investors have shown interest in the South Road Properties (SRP). Bigfoot Entertainment leads the way with its world class sound studio and other facilities, which shall see its construction in June.
The owner of Bigfoot also plans to put up another world class facility, a yacht club there. Negotiations are also underway to build a Japanese retirement village and a hotel there. J. Kings Inc. is also proposing to build a water theme park there.
A Singaporean container manufacturing factory is showing interest in SRP as with the Cardiovascular Hospitals of America, South Road Properties Sports Center and the Entrepreneurs School of Asia.
The other investors who showed interest in the SRP included the SM Investment, Ayala Land, Filinvest Land and the Gokongweis.
Major Metro Cebu Hotels expected to open in year 2007 onwards include the 5-star Crown Regency Hotel, Fuente Towers Complex with 368 rooms, the 5-star SM Hotel (formerly Sheraton) with 220 rooms, the 5-star [InterCon/Sheraton/Marriott] Hotel Towers Mactan with 700 rooms, the 5-star Imperial Palace Hotel and Resort with 668 rooms and the EGI Cebu Mactan Hotel with 300 rooms.
Shopping Malls
Shopping malls are not to be outdone. There are several being proposed like Hypermarket in Banilad, PriceSmart Cebu City, Ayala Center South Road Properties, Robinsons Mall, South Road Properties, SM Mall and Filinvest’s Festival Supermall both in South Road Properties, Cebu North Mall in New Mandaue City and the Ciudad Mall.
Visible to everybody are the constructions of Parkmall 168 near the Cebu International Convention Center, the 5-level SM City Cebu Mall Annex Building, the 3-level Ayala Center Cebu Mall Annex Building, the expansion of Mango Square Mall, the expansion of Elizabeth Mall in the South Terminal, the expansion of Crossroads Mall in Banilad, the expansion of Mactan Marina Mall in Lapu-Lapu City, the building of ACT and I.T. Mall in P. Del Rosario, Boardwalk Mall near the new Cebu Doctor’s University, the Village Leisure Center in Asiatown I.T. Park and the Venue in Mango Square Complex.
Other Sectors
Other proposed projects include Lexmark Asia Headquarters in Cebu Business Park with 22 floors, Office Tower in South Road Properties with 20 floors, Cebu Towers Commercial Center in Cebu Business Park with 15 floors, PIPC Building - Asiatown I.T. Park, Lahug Cebu City with 12 floors, Leisure Building Park City Central in Lahug with 12 floors and Pioneer Insurance Building - Cebu Business Park with 11 floors.
Other proposals, which have been long discussed and mentioned by politicians and city officials include the Cebu Cable Car System by Lito Osmeña, Cebu Light Rail Transit System (Metrowide), Cebu International Port Monorail System, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal II.
