More building projects show Cebu’s growth

The increase in the number of buildings and construction of buildings is a sign of development in the city.

In Cebu's case, expect its skyline to change, with the new buildings and buildings under construction. Add to this, if realized, the construction of proposed building projects that are on the list (partly taken from www.skyscraper.com) of Cebu's development. These were partly taken up on Monday's Real Estate section.

In Cebu City, investors have shown interest in the South Road Properties (SRP). Bigfoot Entertainment leads the way with its world class sound studio and other facilities, which shall see its construction in June.

The owner of Bigfoot also plans to put up another world class facility, a yacht club there. Negotiations are also underway to build a Japanese retirement village and a hotel there. J. Kings Inc. is also proposing to build a water theme park there.

A Singaporean container manufacturing factory is showing interest in SRP as with the Cardiovascular Hospitals of America, South Road Properties Sports Center and the Entrepreneurs School of Asia.

The other investors who showed interest in the SRP included the SM Investment, Ayala Land, Filinvest Land and the Gokongweis.

Major Metro Cebu Hotels expected to open in year 2007 onwards include the 5-star Crown Regency Hotel, Fuente Towers Complex with 368 rooms, the 5-star SM Hotel (formerly Sheraton) with 220 rooms, the 5-star [InterCon/Sheraton/Marriott] Hotel Towers Mactan with 700 rooms, the 5-star Imperial Palace Hotel and Resort with 668 rooms and the EGI Cebu Mactan Hotel with 300 rooms.

    Shopping Malls

Shopping malls are not to be outdone. There are several being proposed like Hypermarket in Banilad, PriceSmart Cebu City, Ayala Center South Road Properties, Robinsons Mall, South Road Properties, SM Mall and Filinvest’s Festival Supermall both in South Road Properties, Cebu North Mall in New Mandaue City and the Ciudad Mall.

Visible to everybody are the constructions of Parkmall 168 near the Cebu International Convention Center, the 5-level SM City Cebu Mall Annex Building, the 3-level Ayala Center Cebu Mall Annex Building, the expansion of Mango Square Mall, the expansion of Elizabeth Mall in the South Terminal, the expansion of Crossroads Mall in Banilad, the expansion of Mactan Marina Mall in Lapu-Lapu City, the building of ACT and I.T. Mall in P. Del Rosario, Boardwalk Mall near the new Cebu Doctor’s University, the Village Leisure Center in Asiatown I.T. Park and the Venue in Mango Square Complex.

    Other Sectors

Other proposed projects include Lexmark Asia Headquarters in Cebu Business Park with 22 floors, Office Tower in South Road Properties with 20 floors, Cebu Towers Commercial Center in Cebu Business Park with 15 floors, PIPC Building - Asiatown I.T. Park, Lahug Cebu City with 12 floors, Leisure Building Park City Central in Lahug with 12 floors and Pioneer Insurance Building - Cebu Business Park with 11 floors.

Other proposals, which have been long discussed and mentioned by politicians and city officials include the Cebu Cable Car System by Lito Osmeña, Cebu Light Rail Transit System (Metrowide), Cebu International Port Monorail System, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal II.
