For two years EWIT and ZETS have been leading FC stalwarts in Cebu and we joined them. But when a business group was chosen by the organizer because they want to attain a mass of people atop mountains on ID, I lost interest.
I did organized an ID outdoor activity but I designed it with limited participation because I am aware of the volume of people that may destroy the trails in one setting. It is called the Philippine Independence Bushcraft Camp and it is the first one here in the Philippines.
To give you an idea, here are some pictures of PIBC MMXI:

sir regarding that 300 climbers of a certain club, that's clearly a violation. but they didn't do it to gain money. what's disgusting is letting that 300 people climb, asking them for money.
there's still LNT to those who are trying to abide by it. not because others are not obeying the LNT rules means we shouldn't. we are better persons that them, so let's keep following LNT rules as much as we can. you'll never know when mother nature will punish you for leaving a candy wrapper along the trail.
Mt. apo really looks like smokey mountain, because of the smoke. hahaha.
I don't know if you were a participant. Whether you experienced an overwhelming sensation upon singing the national anthem at the top of the mountain, in synch with all the participants all over Phils. With that feeling, you can almost forgive anything like the promise of treeplanting that did not happen nor the Tshirt that never came.
I just think that FIMO should leave other mountaineers alone. Ok na naman before ang mountaineering community before they were incorporated. Nothing should be changed.
Kung may mga sariling FED ang luzon, visayas, mindanao, sana magtry sila magorganize ng independence climb next year just to counteract yung ginagawa ng FIMO.
This thread is getting hot..how about evolving our hobby into mountain clean ups every now and then, and educate locals as well as newbies. criticism will not work here, just be a model.
you're right sir, criticisms will not work. moving forward, i appeal to you all not to participate in any more of FIMO activities, instead let's just be stewards of the mountain in our own little way. we don't need those organizations such as FIMO to collect money from us to let us do the things we have been doing since time immemorial. mountain climbing that is.
thread is getting hot na jud.......comment lang ko, pwede ra man ka climb pag fc maski wala naka pa reg...wala man ge restrict ang bukid, wala pud nag collect og fee if ne katkat nga wala naka pa reg....support lang ko as a newbie, anyways we are individuals entitled to our rights....we respect yours as much as we would like you to respect our rights...indeed, criticisms will not work to those who are passionate in what they want to do.....

climb high sir! let's not support those who makes money out of our passion of mountaineering. they will become a parasite to us mountaineers who really love climbing. (except for those who produces legit local mountaineering products of course we have to support them)
hahahahaha... mao ni ako g.comment before sir rans concerning those who lost or even dont have the ethics concerning outdoors... pero unsaon, palakon man ta kai cguro na.igo sila...or bright na sila.
our mountains are for everyone, not for one. FIMO may have their own agenda in organizing the climb but its their own. they organized the climb and for those interested, you can join but again since there will be some freebees and premits maybe that needs to be paid, they asked for fees. besides this is not the first time this has happened, this happends every year through out the country, esp with the annual FED climb, but the only thing is a lot of people have a lot personal interest as well. so if we are to look closely our country has a lot of organization and even federations. why? because when a certain fed or organization are established and some dont condone to what others feel, they go and create their own, thus FIMO was created. kai lagi they wanted to be a different kind of group, deviate of what the traditional group/fed. so another faction is created.
for those who have joined the climb, please tell me how many do you know are newbies that have passion for mountaineering and how many are those who were there just for the heck of it and maybe because their friends are there and maybe because of the ladies? nothing wrong with newbies joining, we all have been newbies once, but try to observe.
yes, we have broken the world record, we are proud of it. but i would like to ask those who have experience in this field to be a model and be responsible for those YOU have invited to join these events, for we are the ones to blame not them, for they know nothing about outdoor ethics, we do.
words wont get you nowhere actions will. whether group or freelance be responsible enough for yourself, you may not fix the mountain but atleast you can lessen it by one person garbage or impact.
i know these arguements are never ending because we all have different views but i beleive we can come up with one goal and that is protecting the mountains we love. yes we cannot stop the others from joining these kinds of event because its their right. but just BEAR IN MIND, BE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH FOR YOURSERLF AND FOR THE ONES YOU INVITED!
