I beg to disagree. How can you conclude something which you do not know of? You don’t even know which church/congregation I go to.
Yes, the tribe of Levi was ordained to receive tithes in return for the work they do in the tent of meetings. (Note that the tribe of Levi was also required to give a tenth of what they received from the other tribes of Israel – Numbers 18:25-29). This was the one of the three forms of tithe recorded in the Old Testament. Second was called festival tithe, when they came to Jerusalem three times a year for fellowship. The expense for the festival, (travel, food, etc.) was taken from this tithe. Third form of tithe was given on the third year (or every three years) which was almsgiving for the poor and needy. All of these tithes were brought to the storehouse, and the priest oversaw the distribution of same. Sa among church, among pastor walay hold sa finances. Dile pud siya ang signatory sa mga cheque. We have elders who oversee how our Church distributes its finances.
To summarize, tithes were used as “payment” for people doing the work of God , for feasts and festivals and lastly for the poor and needy!
We should honor God with the first fruits of our crop, not the last, as stated in Proverbs 3:9:
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth
and with the best part of everything you produce.
I believe in the principle of sowing and reaping. I sow more coz I want to receive more blessings. Consequently, receiving more blessings means giving more back to God. God says your “gift” must be in proportion to how much you have been given, Deuteronomy 16:17:
17 Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.
And for those who say na nailad ra ang mga tao na mo tithe and offer, it is better to judge not because you know not. If the leaders of the ministry mishandle the Church’s finances, the fruit will show.
I no longer want to argue about what % of our income we should give to God, whether as tithes or offerings. Ako ra ikasulti kay if you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly. Also, I do not want to argue about which religion is right. I do not believe in this. Religion will never save us in the end. It is our faith and relationship with God. AMEN.
