That depends on your perspective. From a true fanboys perspective, perhaps, yes, the prequels are signalling the turning of Lucas into the dark side.

But, consider that EP 1 and 2 made a shitload of money. Not bad for a critically-panned set of films that are nothing more than advertisements for Industrial Light & Magic.

Remember, most of George Lucas's money comes from its doing effects work for OTHER films and not from Star Wars per se.

Either way, George Lucas is laughing all the way to the bank.

i just feel that he should have made a star wars movie about different jedis say the ancient jedi knights of the republic. anything not luke or vader. maybe a little more of yodas back story. i dont know. im not really an expert on star wars.

predictable bitaw kau ang story sa star wars, they should have focused more on the fight between Siths and Jedis, in episode 1 and 2 it was all to blurry..............

Some reasons that Episode 1 & 2 were not as good as Episodes 4 - 6:

1. George Lucas wrote the scripts by himself. Empire and Return were co-written by script writing God Lawrence Kasdan. You will notices also that Episode 4 is also the weakest of the original trilogy.

2. Geogre Lucas directed Eps. 1 & 2. Empire and Return were directed by Irwin Kirshner and Richard Marquand respectively.

3. The original Star Wars (episode 4) was like the KILL BILL of its time: a loving tribute to all the films and books that George Lucas loved when he was young - Kurosawa, Frank Herbert, Flash Gordon, Sergio Leone. The current trilogy is a tribute to Star Wars and completely forgets its sources.
