1. kat-on nganong ing-ani pagkadesign sa language para makabalo ka when to use language specific features. (like structs, enums,defines,classes)
2. First keep it as simple as possible kay para dili kas og oras,readable ang code and easily maintenable.
3. kat-on og algorithms and design patterns and know when and how to use them. madiscuss ni sya in higher years sa college kung BSIT or BSCompSci ka.
4. Learn your IDE and its features para makabenefit ka fully sa iya features.

Depende sa kung asa ka nga target platform,language to use and tools to use kay lahi lahi imo timan-an. Pero like the rest of the people said.
