The 18-105VR is quite a versatile lens. It is very useful range if you only want to carry one lens.
If I were to carry 3 lenses,
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 ultrawide or the 35mm f/1.8
I still would carry a bright 18 or 24 to say 150 "utility lens" always on camera
Then a 70-300VR, wish they made a brighter one, but not as heavy as the 70-200 f/2.8
The D90 is very noise capable so the "regular lenses" are okay.
D90 can manage noise very well. I was skeptical at first. But now that I have shot more or less 3000 photo's with it trying 5 different settings for various situations when I have the time, it is very clean at even 1000 ISO.
So, if can't afford an expensive bright lens - okay lang ang not so expensive f/3.5's or even f/5.0's
My trick is kung noisy na gyud and di na kaya sa lens, I just go Monochrome picture setting.
