Closer than ever

More than two years ago, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz took the whole country (and Filipino communities around the world reached by The Filipino Channel) by storm with their sensitive portrayal as young sweethearts in the ABS-CBN soap Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. They were such a hit in that soap (even if they were only "second" leads) that the network decided to cast them as principal players in their next soap, It Might Be You, replaced when it ended by Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin.

It wouldn’t be long before the Bea-John Loyd loveteam hit the big screen. Introduced in the Star Cinema trilogy My First Romance (with two other loveteams, Heart Evangelista and Geoff Eigenmann, and Diether Ocampo and Kristine Hermosa), Bea and John Lloyd had their first solo starrer as a loveteam in Now That I Have You, also by Star Cinema.

After a respite the loveteam is back in another Star Cinema love story calculated to win more hearts, young and old.

The movie, Close To You, is bound to make moviegoers fall in love all over again.

Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, Close To You introduces sensational newcomer Sam Milby, a "graduate" of Pinoy Big Brother, as the third angle involved with Bea and John Lloyd.

Close To You is about childhood friends Manuel (John Lloyd) and Marian (Bea) who think that they know each other like the backs of their hands, including their secrets. But without Marian knowing it, Manuel has been keeping a big secret all the 16 years they’ve known each other – he’s secretly in love with her.

But the trouble is that Marian is in love with somebody else, Lance (Sam), the classmate who defended her from bullies when they were in grade school. Lance has migrated to the States and become popular as leader of a pop band.

When Lance’s band comes to tour the Philippines, Marian pursues him, with Manuel in tow, chasing him all over the Philippines and abroad. In the end, unable to keep his secret any longer and worried that he might lose Marian to her perceived Prince Charming, Manuel makes a big decision and fights for the love that has been keeping him alive all these years.
