You can't actually say "He's The Best" coz if you say that, you're being very biased. There are a lot of music genres as well as styles in guitar playing. What about Tuck Andress? Or Tommy Emmanuel? Maybe you could say "PACO IS THE BEST FLAMENCO GUITARIST WHO EVER LIVED" lupig gud niya si Sabicas. si Steve Vai would be the greatest electric rock guitar player today. So kung naa kay mahibaw-an nga gitarista who has the rhythm & right hand dexterity of Paco & the ideology & left hand fluidity of Steve, pls let me know. pwede siguro si Steve Morse, coz he was like voted for 6 times in a row, "BEST OVERALL GUITARIST"

Why did u say Eddie is Hambug? I think you should dig in your music history. did u know that Eddie was Dimebag's idol? that they even followed Van Halen's format. I mean, Eddie on the guitars & Alex on the Drums. Dimebag on the guitars, Vinnie on the drums. See the analogy?

First of all, of course I'm "biased." That's the whole point of this thread: who do we personally think is the best guitarist. Bias means one's own personal inclination. I am inclined to believe that which I have posted.

how did I arrive to such a conclusion? Simple. I can copy Steve Vai licks, I can copy Steve Morse licks. I can do finger-style stuff like Tuck Andress - BUT I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO DO PACO DE LUCIA. That was my gauge for how technically good he is.

Here are some tips on how to achieve those fluid runs by Paco:

    1. First & foremost, Buy a flamenco guitar, coz really, you can't do those "Paco things" in an electric guitar. Especially the "GOLPE".
    2. Listen to tons & tons of flamenco music, coz flamenco rhythms are not your usual 4 beats per measure kinda thing. they usually are the 3/4, 6/8 & 12/8 kinds. & we are very used to the usual 4/4. I talked to the guitarists in "Fundacion Centro Flamenco" especially Miguel, he said,"I don't Listen to any other type of music anymore, I only listen to Flamenco" coz in that way, you get accustomed to the rhythm. Miguel also used to play Rock guitar before.
    here's their link: http://www.centroflamencophil.com/professors.htm
In flamenco, rhythm is important, they dont care about scales. bahala nag mayabag ka, basta dili lang ka mawala sa "compass".
    3. If you're familiar with the classical guitar terms "apoyando" & "tirando", then practice these techniques. Paco usually applies the tirando during those fluid runs. Also, try to practice your "rasgueados".

4.If you don't know these terms & on how to execute them, you could always contact Joel Oporto, if you're in cebu. I know you know him.
He could always enlighten you with this stuff.

    I hope i helped in some way.............ayo-ayo

by the way, unfamiliarity with another guy's stuff, doesn't necessarily mean he's good at what he does, right away. Although Paco is very good at what he does, let's not be prejudice & ignorant with other people's stuff. Try listening to Tommy Emmanuel's Daytripper/Lady Madonna. He doesn't get the credit "C.G.P." or Certified Guitar Player if he doesn't deserve it.

Let's not forget how "new" Jeff Beck's distorted guitar tones were in the 60's, or the incredibly smooth overdriven tone of Eric Clapton on "Fresh Cream" in the 60's. Ahhh, Humbuckers and a Marshall amp...Prior to that, almost no one used sustained guitar tones in their solos. In fact, few guitarists did guitar solos... Jimi Hendrix really shook things up in his studio recordings, but was generally horribly out of tune when he performed in concert. I've been fortunate because I have seen all of these players perform in concert back in the States. They all have their place in music history.
