Heroin deaths exceeded gun murders for 1st time last year – CDC
The epidemic of heroin and opioid related deaths in the US continues to grow, surpassing gun homicides in 2015, a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows. Nearly 5,000 more people died from opioids in 2015 than in 2014.
Both heroin and opioid use have exploded in the US, after decades of doctors overprescribing painkillers in the 1990s and 2000s. A report from the CDC released Thursday found that the drug problem has become so deadly that heroin deaths outnumbered gun fatalities last year for the first time in US history.
Until 2007, gun deaths outnumbered heroin deaths five to one, according to the Washington Post. But 2015 saw 12,989 people die from heroin and 12,979 die from gun homicides.

This is a bit OT but somehow this is an obvious hypocrisy of the US. while they criticize the Phils in its drug war they are turning the blind eye in its own drug problem.

imagine 3 Million addicts who are either criminals, users only, potential criminals, or innocent in their own right, and how many big fishes, let's just put in the the hundreds. Let's say their are about 1000 big fishes.
1,000 / 3,000,000 = .0003
Meaning there is only 0.03% chance of these big fishes getting shot or dead or caught.
And these guys are well protected by their millions, supporters, rank or position in the government.
While all others in the millions has about 99.9% chance of getting shot or dead or caught, while these people don't have nothing on them to protect themselves. They are even exposed to the risks of these crook cops who are their handlers.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson said on Monday that was what he told Sen. Leila de Lima in jest when she informed him last week that she was going on a trip to the United States and Germany.
“She should not emulate me because she cannot do what I did and she will likely get caught,” Lacson said.
