DICT to establish Tech4Ed center in Iloilo City

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will establish a technology center to cater to selected sectors in Iloilo City in partnership with the city government here.

On Tuesday, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) during its regular session approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to sign an agreement on behalf of the city government with the DICT for the establishment of the Technology for Education, to gain Employment, train Entrepreneurs towards Economic Development (Tech4Ed).

“The establishment of the center is in line with the mandate of the DICT to bridge the digital divide to enhance socio-economic conditions providing inclusive growth,” said Committee on Rules Chair Eduardo Peñaredondo in his report.

The Tech4Ed is under the DICT’s eFilipino-Technology for Economic Development Project. It will cater to out-of-school youths and adults (OSYA), women, teachers, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, indigenous people (IP), and entrepreneurs as well as their families and relatives.

Its key services include the eGovServ for government transactions, eDuSkills for learning in demand including Alternative Learning System and courses under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and eAssist, which is meant to enhance digital and financial literacy.

The partnership calls for the city government to provide office space, equipment and personnel while DICT will extend digital contents and training of the personnel assigned to manage the center.
