Haiyan-Ravaged Philippines Face Another Tropical Threat

In the wake of once-Super Typhoon Haiyan, another tropical disturbance could impact the same areas left devastated across the Philippines by Haiyan on Tuesday night through Wednesday.

While the danger from Haiyan has left the Philippines, another tropical threat looms for the upcoming days.

A tropical disturbance spinning north of Papua New Guinea is expected to track through the Philippines in a very similar fashion to Haiyan at midweek.

The good news is that winds within the system will be significantly weaker than in Haiyan when it reaches the Philippines. The bad news is that the disturbance is still expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and will return heavy rain to the areas devastated by Haiyan.

Restoration still ongoing to supply to part of Talisay City to central Cebu City, part of Talamban, part of Liloan up to Mandaue City, part of Guadalupe, part of Lahug. Majority of supply already restored in Banilad to uptown Cebu City, Guadalupe, Lahug and Lapulapu City. MCWD teams working non-stop to restore water supply in entire service area.

THE PNP SENDS A TOTAL OF 466 PERSONNEL FROM SAF, NCRPO, PRO 7, PRO 13, HEALTH SERVICE, CRIME LABORATORY AND COMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONIC SERVICE TO TACLOBAN CITY, ORMOC CITY AND CAPIZ. A STANDBY FORCE OF 297 PERSONNEL FROM PRO 4A, PRO 5 AND SAF ARE ALSO READY FOR DISPATCH WHEN THE NEED SO ARISES. PERSONNEL OF THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS ARE ALSO ALERTED FOR POSSIBLE DEPLOYMENT IN THESE AREAS.

THESE PERSONNEL WILL PROVIDE SECURITY AND MAINTAIN PEACE AND ORDER AS REPORTED LOOTING OF GOODS HAVE BECOME RAMPANT IN COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS.
