Rudy Distrito, the Destroyer, now destroyed..hehehe. Luoya aning Distrito oi, beneficiary na man lang sa mga fund-raising events..hehe

Retired PBA cager Abe King, now based in Washington, is flying to Manila next month to invite legends like Alvin Patrimonio, Samboy Lim, Jerry CodiƱera, Jojo Lastimosa, Vergel Meneses, Manny Victorino, and Dindo Pumaren to play exhibition games against their US-based players in February.

Abe King is chair of PBA Legends USA Foundation, whose objective is to help retired cagers in need of financial assistance.

The February event is a fund-raising affair, and will include a medical and dental mission where Filipino doctors and dentists are expected to participate.

The US-based team includes Yves Dignadice, Ricky Brown, Marte Saldana, Onchie dela Cruz, Yoyoy Villamin, Jun Jabbar and Django Rivera. A beneficiary of the foundation is Rudy Distrito who is serving a jail sentence in a Nevada prison.

grabeh ka high scoring ang opening game, perhaps because of the new or updated rules put in place

Air21 is a running and fast breaking team so a high scoring game is expected. Plus the fact that Magnolia is loaded with talented players so that makes it easy.
On rules, one obvious culprit was the shortening of the 3-point distance from 22 feet down to 20 feet 6 inches. Players, even big men, can jack up 3-pt shots easily so high scoring games are and will be expected.

exactly. especially teams nga taas na daan ug percentage from afar will really have 100+ point games. Was that the highest opening game score ever?

I've read at PBA's website that it was way back 1992 when Presto defeated Swift 120-118...

yup so that makes last night's game a record at 121-112, the highest winning score in an opening game and 2nd highest in terms of total points from both teams

Another big one coming, Alaska vs Talk N' Text, a rematch of last conference's finals. With NT members Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Florendo Ritualo back to team up with revelations Mark Cardona and Jay Washington, bakbakay jud ni.

Ken Bono and JR QuiƱahan will finally be tested against Asi Taulava, Don Allado and Harvey Carey, not a good welcome for the two rookies.
Mike Cortez and Willie Miller vs Jimmy Alapag and Renren Ritualo, a very high scoring match-up of the guards. With the three point arc trimmed down to 20++feet, it's really good news for Ritualo.

Purefoods vs Sta. Lucia had a total of 9 technical fouls and Peter June Simon and Norman Gonzales were both thrown out of the game for flagrant fouls. This could be also the result of the new rules adopted by the PBA. James Yap came up big in the game with 29 points while Roger Yap and Marc Pingris added 16 and 14 points respectively. Newcomers Joseph Yeo and Christian Coronel delivered well for Sta. Lucia. Coronel had 12 points while Yeo had 11. Kelly Williams led the Realtors with 19 points.

The Talk N' Text and Alaska game was a lopsided one. Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Renren Ritualo never showed any difficulty in adjusting to the new rules, in contrary to Alaska coach Tim Cone, and had the game in their hands as early as the second quarter. Taulava finished with 19 points while Alapag and Ritualo had 11 and 9 respectively. Jay Washington did most of the damage to Alaska by scoring team high 20 points and Harvey Carey added 15. Yancy de Ocampo added 13 points for the PhonePals. Basically, Alaska's big men were totally outplayed by the big men of Talk N' Text. Willie Miller's 35 points went to waste as he failed to get enough support from his teammates. Tony dela Cruz added 13 points while rookies JR QuiƱahan and Ken Bono finished with 10 and 7 points respectively.

It's not quite surprising to see Tim Cone overreacting to such calls and non-calls.

    Upcoming games:

    Coca-Cola Tigers vs Welcoat Dragons
Red Bull Barako vs Barangay Ginebra Kings
