The main reason why this is not feasible is there's not that significant an economic benefit that a bridge can bring to both Cebu and Bohol.

With the Hangzhou Bay bridge, Shanghai and Ningbo port are 2 of biggest deep water ports in China. Cutting travel by 1/5 between the 2 ports benefits their economy...

A Cebu - Bohol bridge won't really pay for itself as Bohol is too small economy wise and Cebu's not that big either.

Besides, you also need to travel around 50km + to get to Argao or travel from the Northern part of Bohol to tagbilaran... no significant reduction in travel time if you compare it with a RORO system that goes straight from Cebu to Tagbilaran.

Its a plain matter of economics... a bridge is not yet feasible and I can think of 20 billion other ways to improve travel not only to Bohol but to the other islands as well.
u seem to have a point there. but the fact that there will be a feasibility study costing $3M is worth looking into. dili man sab cguro ni cla tonto noh mugasto anang feasibility knowing nga dili gyud feasible diay in the end, di ba?

what i'm saying is, there could be a big possibility that this is feasible...and i'm pretty sure they have the initial figures. mao cguro mag feasibility study gyud not only for record purposes but so that we will get the exact figures if it really jibes w/ the initial rough figures.

one scenario that will happen if this bridge materializes is that it will increase significantly the travel from Cebu to Bohol and vice versa. not to mention the savings on travel expense.

Logistics-wise, no RORO system can come at par to that. how many current RORO plies Cebu-Bohol? how many passengers can it ferry everyday? how many cargoes can RORO ferry everyday?

now compare that to a bridge w/ limitless access, it would take i think hundreds of RORO to make it at par w/ a bridge, to which is not only impossible, but ridiculous.

In terms of economic development, it will radically spur growth in both provinces and the region as a whole. more people will invest in infra and tourism too. more jobs and business will be created.

in short, the proposed bridge would become a catalyst to economic dev't in the region. it will also become a source of pride not only to our country but also to the world.

besides, what's $20B price for a bridge compared to a lifetime and generations of gains? we should not only count the material gains but also the intangibles u know...besides, naa man sab cguro nay toll fee para ma target ang needed ROI.

just like the CICC case gud. it costed a lot. return on investment in the form of income i.e. rent for conventions, trade fairs, exhibits, etc is pretty low and could take decades to get ROI. but the bldg is not only for monetary gains. the purpose is also to get the intangibles i.e. Cebuano pride and morale, goodwill and diplomatic ties from other countries like the ASEAN summit, and indirect proceeds i.e. boost in local tourism, exposure of our local exporters to the international market, etc. Cebuano furniture, handicraft, and fashion accessory exporters who made up the bulk of the Phil furniture and handicraft export sector need not go to Manila anymore to join the country's international trade fairs coz they can conveniently do it here in CICC instead at a far lesser cost...

^^^ In short both economies of Bohol and Cebu has the potential for immense growth. Cheap open wide space is getting hard to find in Cebu now. Bohol duna pay daghang luna ug barato and this is very attractive to future investors. Sustainability karon ang gikinahanglan kung mo barug ang ekonomiya sa usa ka lugar and bridging islands could be the key player.
