Security Council OKs Mideast Peace Deal

UNITED NATIONS - The U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution Friday that calls for an end to the war between Israel and Hezbollah, and authorizes 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers to help Lebanese troops take control of south Lebanon as Israel withdraws.

The resolution offers the best chance yet for peace after more than four weeks of fighting that has killed more than 800 people, destroyed Lebanon's infrastructure, displaced hundreds of thousands of people and inflamed tensions across the Middle East. Drafted by France and the U.S., it was adopted unanimously.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert endorsed the resolution late Friday, after a day of brinksmanship including a threat to expand the ground war. Lebanon's Cabinet was to consider the draft on Saturday, but Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the Lebanese government assured her that it supported the text.

The next point of contention will be when to implement the cessation of hostilities. Israel said its campaign would continue until Sunday, when its Cabinet will meet to endorse the resolution. Long columns of Israeli tanks, troops and armored personnel carriers streamed over the border early Saturday.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he planned to meet Lebanese and Israeli officials as soon as possible to determine the exact date of a cease-fire.

Our kababayans who still want to go back here, don't worry. The government continues to evacuate OFWs who wanted to go back here. After all, no one would want that our OFWs there might chance upon tragic death because of the crisis.

At last Israel and Hezbollah came to their senses by accepting the proposed truce, sparing destruction of properties and innocent civilian lives on both sides. A simple prisoner swap would have taken cared of the initial problem. Now, both are badly in need of a way out. Katilaw lagi sakit sa lawas ang Hezbollah, and Israel realized nga gahi pud diay ang kontra. Pero murag ang ilang pag-atras ron is not for resolution of the conflict but to find another approach on how to destroy each other.

Murag wala pa. But I think, makuha ra na sila kay mao na karon gibuhat sa mga Lebanese government. Kay ang mga Lebanese government kay ila nang hinay2 ug atake ang mga hezbollah or mga terrorist na nag-base sa Lebanon. If you read the news for the previous months, mao na sige ug atake ang mga Lebanese government. Kay para nila, ang mga terrorista kay igo lang gamiton ang Lebanon as a battleground for the terrorist against Israel.
