The National Prosecutors League of the Philippines (NPLP) said Duterte may face charges for direct assault as a result of the incident and may also face disbarment.

Prosecutor Jonathan Lledo, president of the National Prosecutors League of the Philippines, in a television interview said the mayor has no jurisdiction over the sheriff.

The mayor, Lledo said, may face charges for direct assault as a result of the punching incident and disbarment as well.
