    NEW PISTOLS

President Aquino handed new pistols to selected PNP personnel in a ceremonial distribution of 22,603 newly acquired Glock 17 pistols in Camp Crame.

It is the first tranche of the 74,879 pistols purchased by the PNP in its target to reach a 1:1 police-to-pistol ratio.

The PNP took pride of the savings that it was able to generate in what it described as its most transparent and rigid bidding, allowing it to purchase more pistols at a low price.

The market price of the pistol is estimated to be at P40,000 each while the PNP was able to purchase it at P16,569.94.

P1.2 billion was alloted for the purchase.

The complete delivery of the pistols is expected by the first quarter of 2014.

In his speech, President Aquino paid tribute to the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, saying it was the latter's wish to fully equip the national police force.

Aquino exhorted the PNP to perform well, warning the corrupt of consequences.

Gov't sets aside ₱1 billion for redevelopment of Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City into an air force base.

Gov't sets aside ₱2B for dev't of airports

The government has earmarked about ₱2 billion over the next two years to redevelop and redesignate airports in Cavite and Cagayan de Oro to decongest the country's main gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Metro Manila.

Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya said the plan would be implemented in two stages, starting with the relocation of an air force base in Sangley Point, Cavite to Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro.

With Sangley Point freed up, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) may redevelop the area into a general aviation services hub for Metro Manila.

PH to buy two Maestrale frigates from ItalyMANILA, Philippines — The Philippines is set to buy two Maestrale-class frigates from Italy, a defense official said Wednesday, as the Asian nation races to upgrade its military amid mounting territorial disputes with China. The frigates, along with 12 FA-50 fighter aircraft, are the most significant items on the government’s P75-billion ($1.7-billion) military modernization budget over the next five years, Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo said.“We are modernizing not because we want to go to war with China,” he told a news conference. He said the government had a sworn obligation to defend the “West Philippine Sea,” using the government’s preferred term for Philippine-claimed areas in the South China Sea.“We are not saying that this is part of our preparations to assert our sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea. What we are saying is that we cannot just give them up.”The frigates would add to two refurbished Hamilton-class cutters formerly used by the US Coast Guard that the Philippines acquired from its US ally to upgrade its ageing navy fleet, which includes some vessels that first saw action in World War II.Manalo said the navy had already decided to acquire two new Maestrale-class frigates instead of buying used ones from the Italian navy, and had budgeted P18 billion for them. The Philippines could be ready to tender by the end of the year, he added.Meanwhile, the government had allotted P18.9 billion to acquire the fighter aircraft, which are built by South Korea, he added. The modernization budget also provides for building or improving facilities to berth and provide maintenance to the vessels on the military’s shopping list, Manalo said.President Benigno Aquino vowed Monday to rebuild the air force by 2016.The Philippines, which has one of the weakest military forces in the region, retired the last of its US-designed F-5 fighters in 2005.

actually guys this was an error commited by the reporter.. let me share to you and I'm sure some of the guys here who are timawans as well will agree with me on this one since this is one way we educate our fellow Filipinos on what our AFP/GRP is doing..

this is an excerpt of the RAW interview from a credible source in timawa..

(what happened to italian package for maestrale) actually i was with the sec of natl defense nung pumunta kami run, yung italian package yung kanilang maestrali, were talking of maetrale, kung talagang ang intention ay bumili tayo ng available na intimano ay magagamit natin kaagad without consideration dun sa cost, pwedenayung, ang decision is to push for the acqusition of maestrale and when we evaluated kasi talagang yung maestrale na yun kumbaga ginagamit pa ng italian navy talagang due for retirement na, ibig sabihin medyo matanda na rin, i think more than 20 years old na rin yung maestrale so base dun s ating karanasan ay medyo mataas na yun gmaintainance cost, medyo napakahirap na bumili tapos after several months ay mabablitaan natin na hindi nagsesail yung, hindi na nagagamit dahil luma na, so the senior leaders after evaulating the opitions decided that instead of buying second hand we might as well acquire a brand new maestrale so yun ang naging dahilan, it is bec of the evaluatioin that it will not be cost effective to maintain a seocnd hand platform

    other things that we're discussed..

    (for fa50) 18.9 billion pesos
(18 for frigate and 18.9 for fa50 part ng 75 b)part yan nung at least 75 billion
(to be spent) thats correct thats correct
(antay fa confirmation, foresee matapos process this year) probably kung makapagschedule next month ng ganitong pagusap makakapagbigay na kami ng more or less specific timelines...
(frigates and fa50 during aquino term) actually yung project na iniimplement natin dun sa mahigit 75 billion,...ay 24 projects, lahat ng 24 na projects na yan, ang ating objective ay maidelvier at magamit na ng ating sandatahang lakas within the termof the president, within the term, hindi lang conscuious effort, deliberate and very decisive efforts ang ating ginagawa upang ang lahat ng ito matupad natin sa lalot madaling panahon
(24 projects) lahat yan nasa various stages of implementation
