Nope we are not way behind. According to wikipedia..our national economy is the 47th largest in the world, with an estimated 2008 gross domestic product (GDP) of over US$ 168.6 billion (nominal). We maybe behind China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and few other Asian countries but definitely not with the rest of Asia (37 countries). So there are still high hopes for us and I think we should focus on that..on what we can do for our country...

You can check these links for details:

Brain drain, I suppose, is just a claim of some critics of the administration. The government is sponsoring a job fair covering around 80,000 jobs, at the very least? Who says we are just sending workers abroad? That is not true. And the fact that we are having job fairs like this only meant we have sound employment opportunities here contrary to what others claim.
well, let's look farther back. after WW2 japan was struggling to find scraps, while the the phils was enjoying the friendship with the americans. not long after, japan became one of the most industrialized country in the world; the phils lagged behind. after the vietnam war, vietnam was devastated; the phils had the headstart. now, vietnam has gone far, the phils hardly crawls to anything resembling progress.

pinoys always thought that they have the edge over other asians, and yet the country lags behind.

vietnam doesn't look so rosy now as it did a while ago...

as for the topic, when people still call us "the mexico of asia" you know we are lagging behind

(no offense to mexico of course)

    Its because of our attitude!!!

We rely everything to the government, that should not be the case.

we should always think on how we can help the government....
