    Atlanta Hawks

The NBA's free-agent signing period is almost a week old and the Hawks are not close to signing Josh Smith to a long-term contract extension, one of his agents confirmed Sunday. Wallace Prather also said he doesn't feel the Hawks are making re-signing Smith a priority. The Hawks have until Oct. 31 to agree to terms with Smith, and fellow fourth-year swingman Josh Childress, or table the discussion until next summer, when both players would become restricted free agents. Smith, an Atlanta native and the team's second-leading scorer, made clear his desire to stay with the franchise through whatever tumult remains in the ongoing ownership dispute. Mura ug Pilipinas... haskang.

Smith could command upward of five years and $50 million in a new deal.

Nothing significant really for the Lakers so far, but as far as the Summer League is concerned, draft pick Javaris Crittenton has been a revelation for the Lakers. He stands 6'5, a little above average for a PG and has great athleticism. He averaged 17 points and 3 assists during the Summer League, and literally outplayed Jordan Farmar.

Scouts and critics ranked Crittenton 3rd overall for the Summer League, just way behind Marco Belinelli of the Golden State Warriors and Detroit's Jason Maxiell. Lots of promises for Crittenton so far.

With 3 assists and 17 points a game? I assess that he's a shoot-first-before-pass PG. Not unless he would start to rack up those assists, I don't think this would make Kobe happier.

    Kevin Durant signs with Nike

Kevin Durant has finally signed an endorsement deal with Nike in a multi-year contract, ending speculations about whether Durant will endorse Adidas or Nike. Reports has it that Durant is about to be paid a minimum amount of $40M, something Aaron Goodwin has done. According to sources, Goodwin won't receive any commission from the Durant family if the deal will be less than $40M.

Adidas has met the threshold amount, but knowing several Nike executives since 8th grade, Durant decided to stay and be loyal to Nike.

This is big for Goodwin, after making the deal for rookie LeBron James way back in 2003.

    Miami Heat

Finally, a good news for Miami. 7-time All-Star, and NBA's top shot blocker Alonzo Mourning has ended months of suspense and finally decided that he'll give it another year. The truth, Mourning has already made up his mind weeks ago, and wants to bounce back after a stunning 0-4 sweep by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs. Zo doesn't want it to be the final chapter of his NBA career.

"I want to redeem myself and try to help this team redeem ourselves as an organization and try to get back on track," Mourning said. "That wasn't the Miami team you saw in the playoffs last year. ... I was embarrassed. I was truly embarrassed by that outcome. I know for a fact we're a better team. It left a sour taste in my mouth and it's time to really end it all on the right note."

Miami star Dwyane Wade's rehab is going well and as planned. Wade is recovering quickly from his knee and shoulder surgeries, but indicated that his condition for the training camp is still uncertain. It would take six months for Wade's surgeries to recover and training camp starts October, and season beginning late October--all within the six month period. Though Wade's condition is improving great, doctors just want to make it sure he's back 100%.

"I'm a fast healer but my doctor really wants to make sure I'm well and I'm healthy and we don't have to go through this process again," Wade said. "He'd rather for me not to rush back to get in training camp and maybe aggravate something early in the season."

Just my opinion. I'm a fan of Shaq but I did not like how Miami played in the playoffs this year. They let Wade (who just came from injury) take too many shots. For me, their offense should have revolved around Shaq first, then Wade dayon. Shaq's passing abilities off the post makes more of his teammates useful in a game. Mas daghan to sila winning streak when Shaq was the main option in offense (wala c Wade) compared na kato c Wade ang gadala sa Miami w/out Shaq.

Its good na mobalik c Mourning but I also heard that Payton and Posey might not be coming back this year sa Miami. Naa pa ba si Eddie Jones? I also would like to see them make a move to trade Jason Williams for a more mature and reliable point guard. Maayo man siya unta pero dili ko ganahan s iyaha shot selections and sometimes fancy ra kaayo cya maski crucial na ang duwa. I know they tried to get Mo Williams but wala man to ma-realize gud.

    Just sharing a thought.
