    Interestingly, most converts to the Catholic faith are those who are well-educated, including a lot of Nobel Prize winners.

    Think of the priest-scientists who made breakthroughs in science: Big Bang theory, study of Genetics etc.

    Relying on social media to conduct "academic" study is pathetic.

    Example:

    I dont know if you are willing to SCAVENGE through tons of trash in the social media to get your so-called "education"

    It's not a question about who WERE the converts to Catholicism. It's about improved quality education of today that plays a role on the decline. Remember, not too long ago, the church were weeping apologizing to the public that Galileo was right after all. Still, you guys discredit most scientific findings just because it contradicts on that bronze-aged book.

    Oh, I remember the CBCP were saying contraception is corruption ... that doesn't even sound intellectual at all.

    Georgetown #92, Fordham #207 in Biological Sciences - almost nowhere to be found on the list. Just because they beat some state-schools doesn't mean they're making advancement and would support its claims that everything in the Bible are scientifically correct. Let me know if those schools you mentioned already beat Stanford, Harvard, or MIT in "scientific/academic advancement".

    But again, it's not the question about schools, it's the question about quality education and people can access to information like wildfire just in few clicks. Through the power of social media, one can find out that the church has a history of bloodstains on their holy robes, corruption, and banning books and scientific findings, that would sure hell turn-off people.

    Why single out Twitter? You know it's not the only player in social media. Think about Khan Academy, Coursera, and etc where people can take college classes for essentially free. Even anyone can have access on help support groups through social media. It looks like you're confusing Twitter and FB are the only type of social media. It seems the church believes people are seeking education and moral advice on FB and Twitter. LOL!

    Pathetic attempt to put down Catholic education. For one, University of San Carlos remains one of the best schools in Cebu.
    The Catholic Church is the biggest and largest education provider all over the world. It is the only religion that started a comprehensive educational system. Through papal mandates, it has established Universities throughout the world.
    The Catholic Church started the college system. U. of Oxford, U. of Paris, U. of Cambridge among many others

    Catholic schools better than public schools

    Atheists holding Galileo as the poster boy for the Church's condemnation of science. Please read real history -- and not propaganda. Galileo was condemned not because the Bible conflicted with observation, but because he differed with the Church over what authority should be used to interpret it.

    There were ABUSES during the Trial, including personal animosity, turf politics, and prejudice that indeed NEEDS APOLOGIZING.

    FALSE. The Church mention only challenges the moral and ethical implications of these scientific findings.
    Example: On the case of stem-cell research using embryonic cells, the Church acknowledge that it can indeed cure diseases. But it also asks if it is ethical and moral.

    Can you mention any Catholic school rejecting certain scientific findings?
    Can you mention any Catholic School that rejects matter is made up of atoms?
    Prove it, or claim ignorance on your part.

    Oh, everything in the name of convenience. It sounds intellectual for you if its convenient.
    Also, Abortion definitely sounds intellectual if it is convenient.\

    The Church has its own arguments against it (contraception).

    GROSS OVERSIMPLIFICATION.

    Try to differentiate Catholicism from Catholics before opening your mouth.
    Was it an official teaching of Catholicism to kill? No, but Catholics did it. See the difference.

    See the reason why some books have to be banned:
    1. of all heretical and superstitious writings;
    2. of all immoral (obscene) books, the old classics alone excepted, which, however, are not to be used in teaching the young;
    3. of all Latin translations of the New Testament coming from heretics.

    Fair enough?

    The Church kept the ancient records in the monasteries for use by everybody.
    And yes, these records and books kept by the Church paved the way for he development of the Renaissance and Industrial revolution. The term clerics to designate the priests and clergy -- was there because they are record keepers.

    Censorship of Books

    I appreciate your diligence in search of truth through social media and REPUTABLE sites. What about the majority?

    Acknowledge in full honesty that social media IN GENERAL is dominated by POPULIST rule, MOB rule, PROPAGANDA, MENTAL CONDITIONING to which the majority is being PREYED UPON.

    In response to your link you provided, it's funny that you have to use an unfair comparison = public vs catholic schools. Public schools have to accept students regardless of intelligence, economic situation and etc while catholic has a screening process on who gets in (mainly through admission test). Of course hell that would make a difference between students in Abellana vs USC. But I don't think this was my main point ... I was talking about today's improved education that helps church decline for the youth. Well, public school still has a long way to go to be on par with catholic/private school counterparts, but their students can use the internet or social media to seek knowledge on subjects that aren't offered at their school on their own free time.

    NEVER in my post I attempted on "putting down" Catholic-run education. I had a stint in Boys High, and they weren't even discriminating science, that's why I never criticized the catholic school board. What I was trying to say is that more students are leaning towards evolution and any legitimate scientific claims instead of those most "scientific claims" in the Bible that's universally acknowledge full of scientific inaccuracies. Don't confuse the forest for the trees and try understanding my main post before you post out of topic subjects to discredit my argument.

    @FAQ:

    The points you raised were:

    1. The Catholic Church made people people dumb by hiding books.
    2. The Church is persecuting science and discrediting scientific findings.
    3. The Church has enough skeletons in the closet that only social media can expose. etc.

    The point I raised early on:
    1. Social media is ONLY ONE of the factors to consider why there is a decline in attendance. There are OTHER FACTORS, definitely.
    2. I encouraged looking for other sources of information, not only social media. See my previous posts for proof.

    It is you who dragged on other irrelevant matters that badly need to be cleared out -- that is why I have to refute most of your PROPAGANDA .

    Take note that Catholic teaching and influence extends to the schools and every institution it manages.
    You have been too brazen to MALIGN the Church by saying that it is "discrediting scientific findings".
    A malicious accusation with no proof at all, as you admit.
    You, as a former student of a Catholic institution should have known better. That's all.

    the reason for the decline of churchgoers is that many have loved the earth and enjoy the materials it temporarily offers and rejects the heavenly gifts offered by Christ which is eternal. social networking is one of many tempting delight of man that many loved. and as for the boring sermon... that is not boring for whoever listens and accepts them... there are some who jumps with joy upon hearing the Good News but many who do not understand just criticized them maybe just go to church because it is fitting to go to the church at sundays.

    Nganung pasanginlan man sa simbahan ang social media, want to know why? History sa church man gyud nah to fear information, to fear knowledge... gikan pah nah sa theory of evolution, hantud sa heliocentric theory, maskin karon mga kabuang sa pari makatag.. the church doesn't want people to know what it is hiding..That's why they attack from all direction..
