What's the fuzz? SIM Card registration should be implemented in our country ... and those not registered should not have access to the networks ... We call this something fishy, but when we will become one victimized by scams or our pix being used by criminals or whatever ... SIM number will be easy to be recognized and criminals can be apprehended ... I strongly agree that such be done here in our country ... Whenever I travel, and would buy a SIM Card to use the CP, I had to present my passport so they know that I have a visa of stay in that country .. hence, they will give me a SIM. We can be protected by this really .. and only criminals or those with intent should be afraid of this.

Solution? Not merely cellphone security though. My proposal is to build or improve intelligences of authorities and strictly apply crime prevention system already in place. If only we have better intelligences that would probably help on busting terrorists as well other organized crimes like drug trafficking, smuggling, kidnapping, killing, etc. Do you not want our authorities to have that? How many innocent people being suspected as criminals for them to show the public that they already solve the crime? Adding this sim registration may increase this kind of scenario.

Conducting strict check on airports, malls and bus stations, increase police visibility, installation of CCTV cameras, checkpoints are far better than this. These are even the basic crime prevention but don't seem strictly implemented. Only waiting for incidents to happen and another lives are at risk.

I'm a pro-change. It's just that its NOT the best to implement considering the current scenario here in our country. Let's think close-to-real solution without putting burden to the general public.

why not? many countries have done this ages ago. why are we being so awfully behind?

this may not completely solve every crime that involves a mobile phone, but this will help.

if a criminal used a fake ID in registering the number, then they can at least locate where it was registered. besides, this isn't only about terrorists. if all sim cards were registered, this will help stop all those unwanted spammers. i hate waking up in the middle of the night only to see that i've received a message about me joining a 'digital draw' and winning a gazillion dollars. yey! i'm rich!

We tend to rush implementing a system used on many countries without considering the applicability and reliability of it? Quoting from first post, "In theory, SIM card registration is attractive and seems to be a good option. But, upon closer study, it is not a smart thing to do."
