Lower Tagoloan River and Gorge

This is Kayak Domain and CDO Kayak Club 1st descent of Lower Tagoloan River on 6 Feb 2011. A longer version of the video OnealKayak uploaded to show more views along lower Tagoloan River.

We started at sitio Maribojoc on the opposite river bank of Sta. Ana, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao, Philippines. Check out the scenery of Tagoloan canyon. It's just spectacular.

We paddled about 8km in 1.5 hours in a Class 2/3 rapids. The video camera mounted on the blue Dagger GTX doesn't do justice on the resulting video. The lower Tagoloan river is a big, wide, high volume river, thus we managed to paddle the 8km river run in a very short time.

The Class 3 rapids is non-technical, so you can use a Sit-On-Top kayak. You need to watch out for cables being used by the locals in crossing the river. You can see that on this video. It's the cable like this that the popular Flying Gecko hit it and then crash on the same river.

Heads up when you are near the quarry because sometimes they pile-drive some pylons on the river and the potential of steel bars sticking out. But so far we didn't see any of these. This was the advice of the Maribojoc guys as shown on the first part of this video.

GOOD NEWS!

A British Kayak Slalom Coach/Instructor who is married to an Iliganon will be relocating in CDO. He will be opening a Kayak Slalom School for FREE. He'll be bringing 4 Carbon fibre/Kevlar slalom boats and that should arrived in June.

KayakDomain.com will be helping him on some gears and instructions for FREE as well. This project is still on the planning stage and we'll be scouting for a good location. I've discuss with him some prospective locations/venue already and I told him that we need help from the CDO city Gov't and Tourism. I hope someone or knows someone from CDO gov't and tourism are listening here.

Unfortunately, this is not for us who are already "ganit"/old. Apparently, he doesn't believed that he can teach old dogs with new tricks. His target are 10-12 yr olds who can swim well, good health and fitness, and has the enthusiasm to succeed up to the Olympic level. N.B. kayak slalom is an Olympic sport. He said, "He is hopeful to find the next Manny Pacquiao of the river!". He also said, "Filipino people are small but strong in stature with light body weight so they too are ideally suited to this sport".

He has trained a couple of the best Olympic qualifiers in UK. One of them is a 19 year old and is in the top 20 of the seniors.

He has contacted the Philippine Olympic Committee about a year ago but was just pass on and perhaps ignored. So he is spending his own money for this project. And we at KayakDomain.com and CDO Kayak Club will be helping him.
