Killed OFW tied bed sheets to escape Lebanese employer--OWWA

MICHELLE Tomagan, of Angono, Rizal, had tied up bed sheets to escape from her employer's fourth floor balcony, broke her head, and died on the way to the hospital, according to the Mount Lebanon police report dated July 28, the same day of the incident.
A copy of the report, signed by Bassam Jawad and Youssef Hanna, was provided to the media by the Overseas’ Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). The same report identified the employers as Joumana Saber and her husband.
A separate police report, dated July 26, did not indicate whether Mary Jane Pangilinan, was trying to flee her employer, Richard El Hajj. It was prepared by Ahmad Abdul Rahman and Raymond Isaac.
It only said that she died of a neck and leg fracture “as a result of [a] fall” from her employer's house on the fourth floor of the building.
Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Al Francis Bichara said the reports, which his office received on July 29, were delayed “due to dilatory factors attendant to the current crisis situation in Lebanon, including the closure of certain roads due to the Israeli air strikes, the congestion of landlines/mobile networks, and the highly erratic schedule of local authorities.”
“These factors combined with the concentration of the energies and time of embassy personnel to the continuous evacuation of OFWs on 26, 27, 28, and 29 July further delayed the reporting,” he added.
OWWA said only Pangilinan was a member of the agency and her family was therefore entitled to a 200,000-peso life insurance and 20,000-peso burial benefit.
OWWA Administrator Marianito Roque said that even if Tomagan was not a member of the OWWA, it would “try to do its best to assist her family in whatever form.”
Early in the day, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo expressed “outrage” over the deaths of Tomagan and Pangilinan, as she ordered authorities to ensure the safety and protection of Filipino workers still in Lebanon.
The President ordered this week the full evacuation of some 30,000 Filipinos in the war-torn state and formed a task force, headed by Vice President Noli de Castro, to carry out the plan.
Over 2,000 Filipinos have gone home since fighting erupted between Lebanon and Israel following the abduction of two Israeli soldiers by the Hezbollah group.
I am not saying the Lebanese people are EVIL.. but the fact we keep on hearing how these people treat our HEROES, the domestic helpers, shows the Lebanese mentality... If these people treat us like DIRT and worse than dogs, do you expect they will treat the israelis, their mortal enemy, any better
I wont shed a tear for the lebanese people... they deserve none....
Thats bad news... daghan na kaayo na damay aning away nila dah if only ni give way lang bisag gamay ang lebanese gov sa pag buhi atong duha ka sundalo okay unta tanan. Pa ugat man gud sila abi nila kaya ra kaayo nila ang israel.
why cross the border and ambush an israeli troop patrol and kidnap the survivors?
why fire katyusha rockets in towns where only civilians live? (the firing of rockets has been goin on way before the kidanpping by the way...)
i just don't know what the hell this nasrallah guy is thinkin...? if some country crosses your border and kill its citizens... what would you do? do nothin? yea... the proverbial question again, overkill ra gibuhat sa israel... surely daghan na nitubag ana sa mga first posts... muslim radicals hell bent on wiping the jews and the infidels/non believers... what a mess!!!
a war like this just for two soldiers? yeah, that's overkill. but for Israel it's an opportunity to stop the menacing enemy at their doorstep. Hezbollah is fast building up since Israel's withdrawal from occupation in southern Lebanon. Israel not only wants to create a safe zone around it's perimeter, it also wants total dismantling of Hezbollah and other extremist groups. As for Hezbollah and company, they're trying to provoke Israel and draw them into a test run. Hez got new materials in their arsenal. Now, they're testing each other, at the expense of the civilians. Depending on how they feel each other's strengths, the conflict will drag on if not go bigger.
