Hi karp. My answer is based on my experience with my 450D and NoiseNinja using the Canon 450D's Noise Profile Sets - in my case 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 (see downloadable profiles here: PictureCode: Noise profiles).
For In-Camera RAW to JPGs, I use the NoiseNinja plug-in for Photoshop CS2
If the photo was taken using ISO 100, then use the ISO 100 profile and so on.
I found out that using NoiseNinja on ISO 100-400 photos actually brings out more detail. Sadly, 800-1600 removes detail.
For RAW images, I use Lightroom 2 to clean the noise before I convert them to JPGs. Don't run NoiseNinja again on the JPG or you'll introduce artifacts.
What was amazing for me was to discover that RAW images taken at ISO 1600 do not lose much detail after noise reduction compared to a JPG image taken at ISO 1600.
I read about RAW files before but didn't believe the hype until I played around with RAW images last week. If you don't know about the qualities of RAW files yet, please Google it up
Like I said, I plan to shoot RAW after the Sinulog for a few months and practice using Lightroom 2. Just another lesson in our life as growing photo enthusiasts.
Ultimately, a fullframe camera is something I wish for to get cleaner images. If I were a rich kid, dugay nako nipalit but since I'm not, I guess I'm lucky to say that I'm just doing my best to take good photos with the meager gears I have. I only have one AF lens, the cheapo 50 1.8. The rests are manual focus lenses that are older than me. He he he.
edited..nkit.an na nko sa lightroom ang reduce noise
@dc: In the Develop Module (after Library), click Detail and you should see Noise Reduction with two sliders, Luminance and Color. I have no idea what they really do but sliding them both to 100 removes the noise. I plan on getting a good book on LR2 soon to learn how to use it. Hope this helps and sorry I can't be of help further. LR2 noob pud ko.
luminance noise are monochromatic noise(black and white noise... yan yung mga itim itim na parang dust na noise)
color noise naman yan yung blu, magenta, green, red, at iba pang churva na kulay na noise...
so in LR2 kung mag remove noise balance the luminance and color for a proper noise reduction...
sample of luminance noise
Chroma Noise / color noise
combination of 2 noise
thnx for sharing that dj-dark... =]
btw, can somebody enlighten me what's the difference between, luminance and saturation?
