[color=navy]Please vote for my friend and Cebuano filmmaker Paolo Dy's short film QWERTY on Spike Lee's Babelgum. Details Below.
'QWERTY' Ranked #9 and Rising on Babelgum!
Hi guys! We've got an update on the status of our film 'QWERTY' on Spike Lee's BABELGUM Film Festival. As of now, QWERTY is currently ranked #9 in the "Looking For Genius" category (This is seven places up from two weeks ago!)
WE NEED YOUR VOTE! We have to get to at least #3 to be included in the finals, where the Babelgum jury will pick the best film that will win a grand prize of 20,000 Euros. (That's some party we're gonna have if we win, haha!) The awards ceremony will be held at Cannes in France, coinciding with the Cannes International Film Festival.
As a prize for voting, the voter who writes the best review/comment for the winning film will also get to fly to Cannes for the awarding ceremonies! So when you vote, please make sure to leave a great comment
The deadline for voting is MAY 7, 2008!! So if you can spare a few minutes, please vote for QWERTY today!
I've attached a PDF file with full detailed instructions on how to vote correctly (it's a slightly tricky process because it involves downloading the Babelgum program, a video-sharing service like YouTube, but with more features.) The short version is:
· Download Babelgum here: www.babelgum.com/download
· Enter the Films & Festivals Community (it’s the first one on the top left corner when you start Babelgum) and search for my film: QWERTY
· Use the Rate tool to give it your vote – 5 stars please!
Thank you so very much! We're counting on your support to put us in the lead And please do send this out to everyone you know who's seen and enjoyed QWERTY in the past
Once again, the entire team thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for all the continuous support and enthusiasm that you've lavished on QWERTY in the past months.
You guys rock! Thank you!!
Cheers,
Paolo Dy + The 'QWERTY' Team
ABOUT 'QWERTY'
QWERTY is a suspense-thriller. A mentally-afflicted young man named Benny is accused of murdering Professor Chavez, his longtime benefactor. Chavez’ lawyer, Dan Ortega, is called in to figure out what really happened. The answer lies in Benny’s mad obsession with the professor’s old typewriter, on which he types relentlessly, day and night.
This is my second short film as a writer-director. We had a great production team and an absolutely fantastic cast including Michael Williams, Miguel Faustmann, Cathy Azanza, Arvin Trinidad, Altair Alonso, Boyd Tinio, and Irra Cenina. And there's a terrific final scene that took the team days to set up
The film was an entry to the Steven Spielberg/Mark Burnett ON THE LOT filmmaking contest, where in the online phase of the competition it accumulated over 50,000 views and a consistent 5-star rating.

tinud-anay ning mga indie film making nga sturya? a friend and i have some ideas on a story. we dont have any technical knowledge on film editing though.
@kape+yosi: i can volunteer
does anyone know the people behind Confessional?
I really want to get a copy of their film on DVD
dili diay ni pwede i-download sa youtube?
[color=navy]At present, the independent film "Confessional" is making the rounds in the local film award circles, earning an impressive a high number of nominations.
It's not out yet on VCD/DVD. It's under the control of ABS-CBN whose Cinema One Originals competition aided in the film's production. I don't know if this was already out on Cinema One. I don't know what's taking those execs at ABS-CBN so long to give this film the nationwide film premiere and release it deserves.
Though Confessional may not have any matinee idols, love teams and big name stars. It has an cast of impressive actors, a story prime for the country's socio-cultural climate, great cinematography, dynamic editing and an ORIGINAL soundtrack. It's definitely the best Filipino film I've seen in a LONG time.
