A common misconception is if you are better educationaly, by experience, you are better than other applicants. no. there are other considerations;
1. job fit - if swak ka sa trabaho. not all trabaho kinahanglan ug super maayo na aplikante.
2. culture fit - HR needs to assess if ang imong personality makamingle sa existing nila na employees.
3. hunch - stranghero ang mga aplikante sa mata sa HR. dili na sila mananagna na makita ang inyo life story in 20 minutes na giinterview mo nila. they rely on impressions. the way you carry yourself during the interview. specially while waiting for the interview to start, and after the interview. the HR knows that during the interview, the applicants will say things that the HR is expecting to hear from the applicants. It is easy to make a story. Its the HRs job to gauge the sincerity of such statements. but humans as they are, of course, they can make mistakes. but theres no other way to have it fault proof.
if wala mo nadawat, it doesnt mean di mo maayo, dili lang siguro mo swak sa position. no reason to be bitter about it. no need to sourgrape.
hiring and job hunting here in the philippines is very different than in the first world countries.
i believe, it is the culture of playing god by philipino HRs that is a major factor in this.
it is very different BECAUSE the quality of applicants is also different than in the first world countries. In US for example, if you are a college graduate, there is no arguing, you have what it takes. Pero if you are an HR here in the Philippines, it is disheartening to know and realize that a lot and i mean a LOT of college graduates here do not have the skills. so many filipinos became victims of poor education. in the philippines, diploma is no certainty, you can even buy it at recto.
Actually, the HR's job is only screening the applicants. But the one who really hires is the requesting department.
There are times, that even the written exams of an applicant is below the passing rate, but the management considers him/her because of the person's technical expertise relevant to the job. That's the advantage if you have already adequate or solid experience.
But for the fresh graduates or applicants with less experience, most have to pass under the eye of a needle of the HR Department.
i experienced this with my first job. fresh graduate. newly passed the board exams.
the manager indicated he will hire me.
but the hr strongly opposed.
i heard the two arguing...over me!
eventually, the manager won. i was hired.
i was curious why the hr was against me, when the manager who had the final say said yes for my application.
a few months later, i found out why.
the hr was attracted to the guy she wants to put in that position.
you wouldn't believe the kind of sh*tty response i've been getting from some HR staff here. They have this line: " just wait for our call, if we don't call you by this time then you didn't pass." One time, i got pissed off with that line, after not hearing from them by the appointed time, i went to that company and asked for the person who interviewed me, then asked her why i wasn't hired. she told me, i'm sorry but i can't tell you that. i got bitchy with her (sorry to that HR person nalng...but i was so sapot with her answer! grrrr!)
