when things are bad, it's the people at the sidelines, the ones who just watches and don't do anything that are so quick to criticize

these are good-time friends, the ones who claim to be friends when the going's nice, but are quick to run for cover when the going's bad

i learned this in UP, there are three kinds of people: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wondered what happened!

by now, im sure you know which group you belong

ayaw pangutana unsa mabuhat sa gobyerno sa inyo, kundi unsa inyo mabuhat para sa gobyerno.

the government is a big part of our life. they decide on a lot of issues that involve us and, in a way, is the most powerful sector in the land. if we just leave them to decide for us, then we can blame no one but ourselves if they don't decide right. if we don't fight for ourselves, then who will!

in fighting for what is right for us, we (the government and the people) are working toward the ideal common goal---the good of all. we can't just sit, watch, and wait for the government to decide for us then cry foul after the law's been passed. that's just plain foolish

throughout history, students have been the movers and shakers. UP and PUP students fought for what they believe in! they fought for their right and the incoming students' right to affordable and world-class education. if they didnt fight for themselves, then who will? their method may leave a lot to be desired, but please remember that these are young people with hot heads filled with idealism and righteousness. im sure we all remember what it was like to be 18, 19, 20! i, for one, can't blame them. if you want change, be the change you want to see. do something

Robbery charges vs 5 PUP studes dropped

MANILA, Philippines - The president of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on Monday said he has decided to drop charges of robbery with threat and intimidation against five PUP students who stole chairs inside the university.
In a statement, PUP president Dr. Dante Guevarra said he has dropped the charges filed before the Manila Prosecutor's Office against Patrick Michael Canela, Judy Anne Fabito, Abriel Masilungan, Cheysser Soriano and Ferrin Louise Umagat.
Police arrested the five for stealing school property during Wednesday's violent protest rally at the school. The students were protesting a proposed 2,000% increase in the PUP tuition.
"I saw clearly that the symptomatic detention of our students is definitely not the answer to our problem; and a number of considerations had to factor in: economic crisis, social disintegration, education cost, man-hour loss, and renewal—I saw the fact that they are students undergoing hardships in life who have to be given the chance to be renewed for them to be able to finish their education," he said.
The university president said he has consulted with the PUP management and various stakeholders to address the lack of budget in the university. He also urged the Commission on Higher Education to stand by its word to increase the PUP budget to allow it to mold its 62,000-strong student population.
A resolution by the PUP board issued on Monday said it has disapproved "any increase in tuition fee and other fees in the University for AY 2010-2011."
Last week, CHED chairman Emmanuel Angeles said he will not allow private schools or state university/colleges to implement tuition increases for this school year to give poor students access to education. “These schools cannot implement any increase in tuition fee without CHEd’s approval and without undergoing through consultation process,” he said.
