What you have is the Philippine hanging parakeet (loriculus philippensis) though i cant be certain of the subspecies kay i havent seen the bird. Females will always have a blue tinge on the face while males dont have any blue make-ups, the male on the other hand will always have a red throat...this is true to all subspecies here in the Philippines. gender can be determined even as a fledgling as the blue or red feathers will start to show. I bet though that what you have is an apicalis subspecies kay its the most common one. Though try to check lang daw kay i've been searching for the chrysonotus (cebu colasisi) for a very long time but havent seen one ever since. A male chrysonotus will have its red markings from the head extend continously down the rump. kung putol gani then its a definite apicalis..........hope this helps..
by the way, take note, they are unlikely to be communal, so they wont mix well with other birds even of their own kind unless grown together or a true pair.
i almost forgot, banana is the most safe food for psittacines (local) papaya is good pero ayaw lang pirmiha coz it can sometimes cause impaction in these birds. These birds have very thin intestines so when fed always with papaya can easily form a food bolus due to the high fiber plus pa kay ang papaya kusog magpakalibang.
Bro, actually, the Loriculus Cebuenensis is already declared extinct, but there are rumors that they are still existing in Tabunan Forest. Just like how the Dicauem Quadricolor (Cebu Flowerpecker) was thought to be extinct and now is known as the world's rarest bird after a somewhat recent sighting.
Btw, have you heard of a Blue Colasisi? I was able to see a picture in PPF.
was it found here in the Phils? Coz colasisis would usually have bluish underparts, I'll try to look into that. I'll check PPF. Thanks bro.
