If these people are squatters, why did the government issued them permits? Worse, given them the privilege to do business in the sidewalks? Sidewalks are there for a reason, they aren't called sidesell.

If the government didn't give them permits then they have all the right to drive them away. Apparently, these vendors have something to prove against the government.

it's all about politics guys...come on....marcos and lee kwan yu got same principle in the good old days..."make them(people, us) poor so that they will want us indefinitely..." of course kung naa na natu tanan, tan-aw nimo mga pinoy mobot pa sa mga pulitiko? kabalo ba mo kung pila ka percentage sa mga kwartahan ang moboto sa election ? di kaabot ug 1% sa total population sa pilipinas...ang katung 99.5% mga taw ana kay naa sa class c d ug e...and these are among the poorest of the poor. kung walay boto = di ka kakurakot ang pulitiko. kung walay position = walay kurakot...kuwang walay pobre = puro mga liberal ug intelligent/smart ang atung mga leader unta karun..saon man way mga EDUKASYON ang mga taw so mopili ra ug SIKAT... mao ba nay sukdanan sa usa ka lider run sa pilipinas? as always, government agenda especially those who are corrupt will always make the people poor....

If a drug lord asks for a business permit to sell drugs and the government issues a permit by mistake, should that drug lord have a right to complain if the government later arrests him for selling drugs?

A business permit is not an excuse to violate the law.

Squatters squat that's what they do? Lol.. drug lords sell drugs because that's what they do too. We don't violate laws just because we are rich or poor.

The logic being expressed by some people here is frankly hilarious and can't possibly be serious otherwise I'd suspect such people of being mentally retarded.

If you're right then Lee Kwan Yew did a very poor job of implementing this principle, because instead of making the people poor he turned one of the poorest countries in Asia into one of the richest in the span of a single generation.

I sort of agree with you, but it does raise serious questions about the purpose of business permits and lack of verification. Issuance of permits and licenses here seems far more about collecting money than enforcing rules.

Yea I agree with you its just more red tape in a business environment that's already full of red tape. But that's a separate discussion altogether, if we can abolish business permits being issued by mayors, we should do it. What is being discussed here is whether or not the mere issuance of business permits excuses illegal acts and the answer is plainly no.

if squatting is against the law, then we shouldn't call them squatters.. we should call them criminals..

issues a permit by mistake, & If a drug lord asks for a business permit
i have been manipulated by this sane logic..
