It is always good to keep the family together especially for the kids because the kids get a chance to be reared well by both parents. But being an intact family is not always a guarantee that you'd all be happy within it. TS, if you've already done the best that you can do to make your partner change for the better and still failed, then move on without him. The hardest part of being a single parent is when your kid starts to ask questions about his/her father.

If I were in your situation, I'd rather be a single parent than live a life of arguments. I think I can be happy without my irresponsible partner. My child would be the source of my happiness and that's enough for me to live and we both deserve better.
