BPO = Call center. There's nothing to be proud of here. It only shows na hilig ta magdawat sa salin na trabaho. I don't see how the Filipinos and our politicians glorify this industry. I've never been a fan of call centers because with its presence, other industries and services suffer in our area.

If they want to improve the quality of life for Cebuanos. Increase wages of OTHER EXISTING jobs.

^^ I for one would not even have the guts to tell that to our sunshine industry. See, the BPO is employing the 600,000 people in this country who are, if not for the BPO, would've been added to our unemployed people. This industry have given them the means to help their families survive. And up until now, BPO has been our biggest employer.

Maayo gani kay daghan ni siya og trabaho nahatag sa mga tao. IMO lang.

Tell me, in your every day life, what products do you use that has main office/headquarters in Latin/south america? OK, I use Tramontina from Brazil. Also, Safeguard (soap) - hecho en Mexico (but P&G is in cincinatti).
Don't limit yourself to one industry group. Products ra man pud tingali imo gi-think. C&HT, HPS, and let's include tourism, basin mao na ang target.

That's why it is called emerging. Dli pa cya fully developed ang economy. It's a risk, yes. but if we don't take the risk, unsaon man nato pagprosper if ever mo-boom na cya nga markets?

Kita man gud Filipinos, majority kay ganahan instant. Kanang mga no-sweat. Like as you said, dapat sa first world. Lelz. We are there. But were we able to succesfully got the big chunk of the business? We need to invest our efforts sa mga emerging markets pud gyud, IMO. Kita ra man pud mabulahan if mo-boom na cya and naka-una ta position ngadto.

The only Latin american emerging economy that can leapfrog into the industrial world is Brazil.

As one noted politician said. What are we doing in industries where we do not have competitive advantage?

^ That's where investors come in. It is them that will nurture our industry. All the government needs to do is support these industrial firms who wants to invest in the country. Let's say, give them tax breaks, we can also give them other incentives that will make them grow fast. We need to be attractive enough to catch these large multinationals and get their money flowing into our economy. You see, these firms won't invest a single cent in this country if they know we don't deserve it.

One advantage we have is the cost - efficient labor that we have. We have a large pool of competitive workers that are comparable to those from Singapore, Japan and even the USA at a cost that is much lower than the mentioned developed states. Comparing our quality with cheaper labors like those of Vietnam, Indonesia, China and the rest of Indochina, Filipinos are more competitive compared to them. Industry requires a lot of knowledge, and I know that our people have that.

Not only us. We have to be competitive (in cost, infrastructure, human resources, business friendly government policies) within the region: Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India.

    Let's get our acts together.
