I can't remember ever separating Davao and Mindanao. Wonder why I always mention Mindanao here when in fact this thread is between Cebu and Davao? That's because I DON'T separate Davao and Mindanao. And yes I'm a proud Dabawenyo and more proud Mindanaon.
I think I get what you mean by "You already stated one weakness." I don't agree with you, though. It's our weakness? That very wrong perception is theirs. It's their weakness.
Economic growth doesn't have to come at the expense of peace and order and cleanliness. They can be achieved together. It's obvious you are poorly informed of Davao's history. Let me regale you a bit of it. The city has a dark history. 25, or so, years ago Davao was dubbed the murder capital of the Philippines. You can also imagine how dirty the city was at the time. Then Duterte came. He purged Davao of all evil, and not only that, he also cleaned its mess, literally. Here's one of the philosophy he lives by: "Criminals don't have the monopoly of evil". Here's another: "I will do what is good for the greatest number." It's a long list. I'm pretty sure you're familiar with his methods. They may be controversial but they're extremely successful. Davao owes a lot to him. It may not be obvious to you, since obviously you haven't been here, but Davao has been growing since the great mayor Duterte became leader. Now his daughter is taking his place as mayor but he's just right behind her as vice mayor. And tell you what, Davao now is at its most progressive and it's never been more peaceful, orderly and clean ever. As it continues to progress I can only predict it will only become even more peaceful, more orderly and more clean.
You see, what drive Davao's growth is the success of the city government. It's not the other way around like in your city. And apparently Davao's neighbors are following suit. Tagum city is a great example. They also have a skillful mayor. Other city governments can only dream of emulating Davao city government's success. So don't say Davao should plan well to avoid lawlessness when its economy makes a mark (whatever that means). When it comes to planning for lawlessness, Davao is light years ahead of the pack. We're the best at it.
Okay, I admit I was being irascible. I overreacted. You're right. I knew it a long time ago: to each his own. But for a moment there I lost it. I lost my sanity. I'm deeply sorry for my action. Pila ra man katao ako gikalagutan diri dili man tanan. Cge man gud na cla balik2 anang bakak nila. Pwede man ta maghinambogay but unta lang no hitting below the belt. Ayaw lang jud ng gamiton ng among pagka Mindanao para dautan mi. Please lang unta. Mao ra man ako.
You might also want to know, I'm a proud Dabawenyo. Yes. I'm a proud Mindanaon. Yes. But beyond those I'm a proud Filipino. I want the best for all the Philippines not only for Davao and Mindanao.
For now here's my honest take on the subject "Asa nindut puy-an or suroyan: Cebu or Davao?:
Davao kung puy-an. Cebu kung suroyan. Love me or hate me, that's my honest opinion without bias or prejudice.
But I dream of the day when both Cebu and Davao are both nindut suroyan ug nindot puyan.
@davaobred:
I hope you read my previous reply, I visited Davao already. I took my first course in Gensan [NDDC] and been roaming in Davao during my free time, so basically I've been there. and it's in your post actually you always states "Davao and Mindanao", I think it should be "Davao and other areas in Mindanao".
When it comes to economy, any bad publicity will be a weakness of a city or a country.
it you look at it on a different way that "it's their perception" then theres no problem with that, but when it comes to investors points of view its basically a weakness. if you're going to compare the number of investors, [no offense] but Davao is way behind Cebu check our revenue as proof.
I always admired Duterte when it comes to peace and order, and I think its a good tandem if their going to run as Pres. and VPres, Osmeña is obviously as the president since he has more knowledge when it comes to our economy[Phil] and most of all international connections.
OT:
if you really feel that Davao has a good economy/opportunities to offer to their locals, then tell it to those Davaoeños who are working here in Cebu. I don't want to debate when it comes to revenue because it's an OT already.
so, kung aha dapit ang nindot suroyan, it will always depend on a person, and in my humble opinion I would say Cebu. [aside from it offers lots of opportunities compared to Davao].
