A new hard drive has been recently launched by Toshiba. The SATA 7200 RPM, 2.5 inch MKxx61GSYG HDD boasts built-in hardware-level encryption and in case it is stolen, the disk can erase everything stored on it.

Due to the fact that the encryption of this hard disk drive is performed at a hardware level, theirs is little chance it will have issues regarding its compatibility. This means that the encryption process is almost unnoticeable to final users.

For instance, you don't have to encrypt manually, because the encryption process runs automatically when you perform custom operations.

In case someone removes the disk from the host PC and introduces incorrect access data, the disk can be programmed to restrict access to information, erase all or some information stored on it or carry out a cryptographic erase.

In addition, with the help of special tools like Intel's AMT (Active Management Technology), the user can perform secure remote management.

So far the MKxx61GSYG HDD comes in the following capacities: 640GB, 500GB, 320GB, 250GB and 160 GB

what about confidential data related to terrorist threats, war, etc? The government doesnt care if you have confidential data regarding your business/clients.

I believe Toshiba is not telling everything. They might have a failsafe only they know about.

dude, i am looking at it in a business perspective. the government wouldn't care? what if the government's my client, and the data in my HD contains all confi information about the citizens?

You believe Toshiba's not telling everything? Duh, they are just simply telling you that they have this programmable disk that is capable of erasing data by itself. Up to you how to program it.
