You only need to rename the file from filename.cbr to filename.rar. The icon would then change to that of a rar file. Extract and enjoy.

You are right - Merle and his brother Dixon appear only in the TV series.

From MTV's interview with Robert Kirkman:
MTV: And is it safe to say we haven't seen the last of Merle Dixon?
KIRKMAN: We have definitely not seen the last of Merle. I can confirm that.

There are some speculations that Merle would turn out to be The Governor. But Kirkman said in this interview that "There's certainly a possibility of that, but I think people might be thinking a little too hard about it."
