Police probe Mabolo policeman
HE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is investigating one of its own for allegedly letting a suspect in a rape case escape from the Mabolo Police Station detention cell.
PO1 Lloyd Magdadaro allegedly let go of Lysander Pardilla, who was accused of raping last Saturday a 22-year-old who worked as cashier of a restobar.
The woman went to the Luz Barangay Hall to report the incident.
“We pitied her because she was still shaking when she went to the barangay hall, so we accompanied her to Mabolo Police Station to file a formal complaint,” tanod Joel Gelig told Sun.Star Cebu in Cebuano.
The tanods also confronted Pardilla, who worked as a security supervisor of a casino in a hotel in Cebu City.
Talk
Gelig said they made Pardilla go with them to the Mabolo Police Station, but when they arrived there, he saw the suspect and Magdadaro shook hands and talked.
Gelig said the two appeared to know each other.
He said the two were still talking when the tanods went to a room inside the station to file an affidavit.
When the tanods went out to fetch Pardilla so he could file an affidavit, the suspect was no longer there.
Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Bue-nafe, CCPO director, ordered Mabolo Police Station Chief Aureo Sanchez to look into the incident.
Connection
“This is not an ordinary case. We haven’t talk to Magdadaro (yet) but we will conduct an investigation on him. We will see what connection he has to the suspect, and whether it is true that he helped him escape,” said Chief Insp. Romeo Santander of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) of the CCPO.
Sun.Star Cebu called the Mabolo Police Station six times to get Magdadaro’s comment.
In the first call, the police said Magdadaro was not yet there. In the succeeding
calls, however, Sun.Star was told the policeman was on duty but went out.
“In the event that he is proven guilty, he will be facing proper sanctions. He may be dismissed from work or face charges. We are still investigating,” Santander said.
According to her affidavit, the victim was working in a restobar near the hotel casino were Pardilla worked at 10 a.m. last Saturday.
While she was attending to customers, two men approached and grabbed her. A few minutes later, Pardilla arrived and forced the victim to ride a taxi.
He allegedly brought her to a motel and forced her to perform oral ***. After that, he brought her back to the restobar.
Lawyer Alex Tolentino, the victim’s counsel, said they filed a case of abduction and violation of the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 against Pardilla yesterday.
Now that Pardilla is at large, Tolentino said he fears for the life of his client.
The victim’s employer alleged that Pardilla went to the restobar last Sunday and slapped two minors who saw him and the victim.
Korean national Kim De Gyo, owner of the restobar, said he is also apprehensive because someone threw stones at his car and restobar.
Tolentino said if Magdadaro is proven to have helped Pardilla escape, he will also face charges of grave misconduct and negligence of duty.
