I'm appealing to everyone to be careful and sensitive enough not to buy stolen phones, electronic gadgets or anything offered for sale that is dubious in nature.
Thieves thrive because there's a market for their loot. Because buying a stolen item is tantamount to supporting their activities.
IF IN DOUBT, ALWAYS DEMAND FOR AN OFFICIAL RECEIPT OF THE ITEM. Usually, the receipt contains the name of the original buyer, the date the item was bought, the item's exact model and its corresponding price and the buyer's signature. The seller of the second-hand item shud be able to show u the official receipt.
How to tell a stolen mobile phone? In the absence of the official receipt, the list below may serve as ur guide:
- when offered at a very low price compared to the suggested retail price at the shop.
- if it lacks a product box with manual or any accessories bundled with it such as a battery charger, earphone or headphone, USB connector, etc.
- if the seller himself doesn't even know how to operate the phone ()
- if the seller doesn't know some of the features of the phone
there might be some other telltale signs of stolen mobile phone offered for sale but the above list shud make u think twice before u offer to buy it.
