Hello ya’ll
I’m a long time lurker and fond of reading all the posts created here in the forum and I just got registered because I got interested on this topic. Anyways, I am a practitioner of both arts (TKD & HKD) for over 16 years and my assessment is TKD has few qualities compared to HKD when it comes to sparring (actual not point system). Tried and sparred with a competent TKD instructor and I would say the level of fight was incomparable. TKD is good for kicking and screaming but the real deal is Hapkido. I have a personal student (former TKD for 8 yrs) told me that TKD can’t do anything when it comes to street fighting. Like situations where you are cornered and couldn’t do but fight back. There are still fancy kicks that a HKD practitioner do. Though, the effectiveness of the Art proves that TKD is just like a baby learning its first steps. They are nice to see when it comes to forms and breaking boards. Korean military trained in Hapkido than TKD. Just my 2 cents.
