MANILA, Philippines - Earnings of ABS-CBN Corp., the country's biggest media conglomerate, may reach P3 billion this year, its top official said on Wednesday.

At the sidelines of the company's stockholders meeting, ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III said that profits exceeded the P3-billion target in 2010, mostly on the back of election-related spending.

However, Lopez said revenues are expected to fall this year, even as ABS-CBN raises advertising rates.

"Certainly, in the first quarter, there will be a drop in the revenues vis-à-vis the political revenues that were there last year. The first quarter last year, we had more than P2 billion worth of revenues," he said.

"We won't be able to make up [for] that P2 billion, but I think there is a significant and healthy growth in our overall business without the political minutes," he added.

Despite the expected drop in revenues, ABS-CBN's big boss said the company's earnings will be helped by a not-yet-completed transaction.

"There are several events that are occurring, that we are not at liberty to discuss today, that will result in significant impact on our profitability. At the proper time, we will say what these are," said Lopez. - With report from ANC

I've seen the plug of abs-cbn earlier, the Kapamilya Gold, finally!

Its very visible that kapamilya daytime shows have been losing its grip of supremacy but ABS has been quite all this time. Now, the largest network is about to show everyone that they are still the number 1 network nationwide. This "unknown" development has been kept secret from everyone outside ABS-CBN. The executives of the network as well as the abs-cbn insiders are saying that this March, the sleeping giant will wake up and will take back the throne.


It all started this Monday, as ABS-CBN sealed the primetime supremacy:

ABS-CBN has already conquered the primetime, now a new afternoon block is set to make the summer hotter than ever. Nasaan ka, Elisa?, Mariang taga barrio (maria La del barrio) and Mula sa Puso are ready to invade daytime.

BUT! - they said it will be a blast!

Now, the mind boggling question is, what are they planning?

ABS-CBN's Kapamilya Gold Malapit Na! Gintong-ginto!

Isang araw habang naglalakad sa kalye ng MH del Pilar, Malate ang nagninining sa ganda na si Byx eh napahinto ito sa kanyang paglalakad dahil nakakita siya ng isang ginto.


Pinulot niya ito... tumingin sa paligid... nang malamang walang nakatingin sa kanya... muli siyang naglakad . Lumakad siya ng lumakad patungo sa Mabibi, Malate. Huminto muna siya sa tapat ng isang Motel doon tiningnan niya ang ginto. Nanlaki sa tuwa ang mga mata ni Byx, mata na nagpapakita ng excitement.

Mga gintong-gintong programa ng ABS-CBN ang kanyang nakikita na lalo pang magpapalakas sa TV station na ito. Gintong-ginto talaga ang kanyang nakikita dahil ang mga eto ay may kwalidad na pang Primetime Bida.

Lalo pang kuminang ang gintong kanyang hawak. Tinitigan niya ito nang makita niyang ang mga ito ay mula sa 3 unit ng ABS-CBN. Ang isa ay galing sa unit sa Star Cinema, yung isa naman ay sa unit ni Sir Deon endrinal at ang isa pay ay galing naman sa unit ni Direk Lauren Dyogi. Napangiti si Byx dahil alam niyang mataas ang kwalidad ng ginto dahil ito ay pawang mga remake mula sa iba't-ibang bansa.

Biglang nawala ang ginto sa kanyang mababangong palad... Sa kanyang paghahanap ay nakita niya ang mga salitang 'Nasaan Ka Elisa?'. Sa isip-isip niya na galing ang gintong ito sa Latin America at di nagtagal ay muling lumabas ang ginto.

Muli siyang naglakad... naglakad siya ng naglakad... malapit na siya sa Manila Zoo... hanggang sa uminit ang ginto. Tiningnan niya ito at nakita niya ang mga maiinit na eksena at lumabas ang mga salitang 'Maria la del Barrio'. Muli ay ngumiti si Byx dahil alam niyang ito ay nagmula sa Mexico.

Dahil sa kanyang nalalaman ay binigyan siya ng pabuya ng ginto.... Isang nakakasilaw na kinang ang ipinakita ng ginto... isang kinang mapapa-ibig ka sa ganda. Sa kinang na iyon ay lumabas ang mga salitang 'Mula sa Puso'.

Nawala ang kinang ng ginto nang biglang sumigaw ang isang matanda ng "Hapon! hapon!". Dahil sa takot na baka sakmalin siya ng matanda, tumakbo ng mabilis si Byx. Nang malapit na siya sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ay napahinto siya at binasa niya ang isang text message. Isang text na mula sa isa sa kanyang mga source, ang source na nagbigay sa kanya ng mga balitang ito:

at ng marami pang ibang balita na naging buzz ni Byx.

Ayon sa text... mapupunta sa 6pm timeslot ang 'Maria la del Barrio' habang ang 'The Price is Right' ay mapupunta sa hapon. Biglang lumabo ang text... mukhang malabo ang naging mensahe ng text... pero ayon sa matandang nakita niya ay hapon ang gintong nakuha niya.

Tiningnan niya muli ang ginto. At sa muli niyang pagitingin rito ay nabasa niya ang mensahe ng ginto:

"May magaganap na ABS-CBN Trade Launch next week."

At kuminang ulit ang ginto... iba't ibang programa ang kanyang nakita... programang na ilan nga sa mga ito ay na-ulat na niya... hanggang sa makita ang March 21 at nawala rin ito. Ngumiti siyang muli dahil naging ASB-CBN logo ang ginto. Isang Golden ABS-CBN logo... gintong-ginto ang kwalidad para sa mga bagong ginto na gintong programa.

Hinde pa rin sigurado ni Byx kung totoo nga ang nabanggit ng ginto. Basta ang alam niya ay kailangan niyang pumasok ng Bangko Sentral.

Pero di siya pinapasok ni Manong Gurad dahil may nakalimutan siyang pasalamatan.

Kaya pinasalamatan ni Byx si Erich Gonzales sa litratong nasa itaas at kay Ate Eliza sa pag-upload at pag-share nito.

ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold

By now, avid ABS-CBN fans must have already seen the TV plug for “Kapamilya Gold” which the station is set to unveil on Wednesday, March 16, on TV Patrol. The teaser showed its current emblem transforming into a golden logo. What do you think is this intriguing ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold all about?

Members of various fora predicted that there will be a trade launch for three (3) big Kapamilya programs/television series.

Others said it will be a promotional activity, a multi-million-peso project that has a sole goal of bringing back the network's supremacy on Philippine television.

Some netizens also posted that it's just plain launching of the new logo that has evolved for years, part of the events to commence the broadcast network's celebration of its 65th anniversary come June 14th.

We tried to search for clues, not just for fun, for education and research, but because we wanted to discover things ahead of the pact as well.

A Wikipedia article about ABS-CBN has so much information; it might just tell us what this fuzz is all about although we admit that at first we overlooked these parts of the content. These we would like to quote as follows:

ABS-CBN applied for a digital television-terrestrial service (DTT) license from the National Telecommunications Commission. Digital Television in the Philippines once utilized the DVB-T standard utilized in most of Europe. The Dutch company Impeq Technologies is one of ABS-CBN's consultants in the digital transition. The network planned to also supply DTV boxes in areas where signal reception of Channel 2 is weak. Areas such as Valenzuela, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna are the potential market for the DTV set-top boxes. The Metro Manila market will receive DWWX-TV and DWAC-TV and the company's six other cable channels on the digital platform.

The National Telecommunications Commission will be giving television broadcast companies until December 31, 2015, to fully convert from analog to digital technology, in line with the worldwide shift towards the use of DTT in broadcasting.

This 2011, ABS-CBN ups ante on ISDB-T digital broadcast as they will have its nationwide digital terrestrial television rollout, the first in the country. It will incorporate P5 billion to implement the chosen DTV standard over the next five years.

Based on some informants, ABS-CBN is currently testing its digital TV again on various subdivisions in Bulacan and Pampanga. Channels include ABS-CBN, Studio 23, Cinema One, ANC, Hero Channel, Knowledge Channel, and Cge TV.

The National Telecommunications Commission sticked with the Japanese standard ISDB-T which will now be ready to implement the rules for digital terrestrial television this coming April 2011.

According to DTV Pilipinas, the NTC last June 2010 had decided to set the Japanese DTV standard ISDB-T as the sole digital terrestrial television standard in the Philippines.

Our prediction? Kapamilya Gold is Digital TV.
